As you visit the charming locations in Tiny Bookshop, you will sell various types of books to different customers. Eventually, your books will run out, and you can’t simply replace them with decorations. People want books, so you will need to buy more and restock your shelves regularly.
You will need to decide which genres to stock and how to arrange them in different areas, but that’s not all. You might want to stock more books to ensure your customers find their favorites and leave room for a few extras. Managing your inventory and layout is all part of running your bookstore smoothly.
How to Replenish Your Stock of Books
Most new books are purchased through the Bookstonbury Review newspaper. During the tutorial days, you’ll gain access to this paper from Fern. Each day, it offers four bundles of books for you to buy.
Some bundles specify a theme instead of a genre, which hints at the type of books you’ll get. For example, romance-themed bundles might include Drama or Fantasy books, or both. Prices for these bundles vary, and while most provide random genres, some are themed with guaranteed content—like a bundle focused on Mediterranean Travel, which ensures you get plenty of travel-related books. These themed bundles are useful when you need to stock a specific type of book.
You can also find book bundles at the weekly Flea Market every Saturday. Vendors there often sell bundles alongside other goods, and Tilde is the most likely seller of these bundles.
Once it’s fall, you’ll unlock St. Bookston University, where you can find about one to three free books on the ground. Additionally, certain seasonal vendors, like the Gothic Vendor in autumn, sell special book bundles—usually Crime books for fifty coins. Friendly characters like Fern and Anne might also sell books as you get to know them. During the winter market, seasonal merchants offer limited-time book bundles, which only appear during that season and won’t come back until the next year.
How to Restock Books
Most of the time, you’ll need to restock your shelves after a day of sales. This is done through the Restocking Menu after choosing a location for the day.
Each location has preferred genres that you’ll want to stock, though sometimes you’ll need to bring specific genres to earn a Stamp, even if they are not preferred by that location. To restock, pick the genre, then left-click and drag across the shelf to place books. Alternatively, you can click on individual empty spaces to add books one by one. If you want to rearrange or remove books, right-click on them or drag across rows while holding the right mouse button.
Shelves can hold between eight and ten books per row, depending on the shelf type, with sizes varying randomly—larger books still count as one slot each.
You can also restock any genre you like and customize how many of each to sell, but the minimum number of books needed to start a new day depends on how many shelves you have. For optimal sales, aim for about 70-80% books of the preferred genre for a location, and 20-30% from other genres based on what boosts your sales and recommendations.
If a genre runs low and you haven’t replenished it, focus on selling from locations that do not prefer that genre and do not have it in stock until you can build your supply again. This balances your inventory and keeps sales steady while fulfilling most recommendations.
How to Get More Space for Books
You start with a single bookshelf that holds 40 books, but you can expand your storage in two main ways: buying furniture items that qualify as bookshelves from the weekly Flea Market or purchasing them from the seasonal section of the Bookstonbury Review.
The first upgrade is the Storage Box, available after completing Tilde’s quest to bring her boxes to the Flea Market. It adds eight extra spots for books. As the seasons progress, you will unlock more storage options, such as the Antiquated Shelf, which becomes available for 450 coins once winter arrives. You can also buy shelves from characters like Walter at the weekly Fish Market once you get to know him better.
