During the main quest “The Escape” in GreedFall: The Dying World, you might come across a group of bandits and hear someone calling for help. The voice belongs to a friendly sculptor trapped under rocks and unable to get out.
To finish this side quest easily and quickly, without unnecessary wandering, you need to find some rope nearby. Here’s how to locate rope and help the sculptor in GreedFall: The Dying World.
How to Get Rope and Free the Sculptor
While on the main quest “The Escape,” you are supposed to meet Ludwig’s contact, usually fishing in the Eskiara Coastal Region. But upon arrival, you find no one fishing, signs of a struggle, and tracks leading up the hill.
Instead of following the footprints right, go left toward the Ruins of an Ancient Civilization. Along the way, you’ll encounter monkey workers to defeat for loot, followed by a group of men. After dealing with them, listen for a crying voice. This triggers the “Rock Bottom” side quest, which you can track in your journal.
Climb the stone ledges on the right side of the area, follow the short path to the left, and you’ll find who the voice belongs to. It’s Eser, a man trapped in rocks after falling there accidentally.
You won’t be able to free Eser without some rope, so your next goal is to find or craft some. You can continue following the marker for the main quest to find Ludwig’s contact or head back toward the shoreline and the footprints.
Eventually, you’ll reach a wooden cabin with bandits outside. Talk to the bandit leader to explain your situation. They will ask for a favor in exchange for releasing Ludwig’s contact. Your options include requesting to see the fisherman, offering gold, attacking, asking about different topics, or leaving.
Choose to see the fisherman, and the bandit leader will agree. A cutscene begins where you talk to the fisherman inside. Ask him all you can for information, then speak again with the bandit leader.
It’s recommended to sneak in and rescue the fisherman directly, to avoid confrontation. To do this, head around to the back of the cabin, crouch behind cover, and quietly knock out guards along the way.
Once inside, the door to the cabin is locked. Knock out the guard to the right and take his key. Use it to unlock the door and go inside—here, you’ll find the fisherman and a coil of rope on a barrel. Take the rope to complete this part of the quest.
Sneak out from the bandit camp and head back to Eser to deliver the rope. You can choose to ask for a better reward or refuse to help, but helping him is usually the best option. Follow him to his camp to receive your reward, which includes +400 experience points and a Statue of the Ruins. You can also loot nearby boxes for valuables and coins.
