Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 may not have the largest open world compared to other recent games, but it significantly expands its environment when you access certain buildings during the main story. Each time you try to go through these buildings, you’ll often need to find hidden routes because the main entrances are blocked.
From the very start of the game, you’ll encounter puzzles that require solving to progress. For example, when leaving your initial apartment, you have to avoid alerting the police. Luckily, following specific steps makes this easier.
### How to Unlock the “To Taste A Foreign Body” Quest
You’ll reach this quest early in the game during the tutorial. After waking up, you’ll first defeat a police officer in a cutscene. Then, as you explore a small corridor, another officer will appear, prompting you to attack him when he approaches.
After defeating the second officer, follow the straightforward path until you arrive at a larger room with stairs. However, the stairs will be blocked, so you’ll need to jump onto some boxes and then leap through the corner gap to reach the upper floor. Moving through this corridor, a cutscene triggers, introducing Fabien.
While the dialogue choices here don’t heavily influence the story, selecting the right options can please Fabien. When asked about the situation, replying with “It seems we’re both in the dark” will set the stage for the next part of the quest, which begins immediately afterward.
### How to Reach the Roof
In the next segment, you enter a building and find the main entrance. Unfortunately, police are guarding it, so you can’t just walk outside. Instead, turn to the right in the room and use your special sight to locate a blue pipe in the elevator shaft. Use telekinesis on this pipe to drop the elevator, creating a new way out. Climb into the shaft, jump onto the elevator, and then use the ladder to ascend higher. Continue through the corridors until you reach an open area with a small plank bridge.
Cross the bridge and enter the rooms beyond. First, you’ll find a bloody package near some graffiti. Next, proceed along the path past a lamp, but be careful to sneak past a police officer here without engaging rather than triggering a fight. Use your special sight to spot white objects you can manipulate with telekinesis to distract him by throwing them at the wall. Take the right path and go straight through a small room.
In this room, you’ll see a white cloth hanging from a hole above—take it to continue. Moving through the upper area, you’ll find interactable objects like a painting and a radio, which provide lore and background information about Seattle for those interested. After passing the radio, head into the next room through another hole that elevates you higher. On the other side, you’ll have to jump across a large gap—gliding across the moonlit space—to reach the next room, then enter through the door on the right.
Further along this path, you’ll encounter more officers and hide behind cover to avoid detection. Wait for them to move away, then slip through a small gap in the wall to continue descending into the building.
Inside, you’ll repeatedly face ghouls. Although combat is a part of the challenge, you can also apply stealth tactics here. Using your sight, locate blue planks on the ceiling, and with telekinesis, remove them to allow jumps to higher platforms. Collect potion items hidden above and move forward to reach rooms filled with more ghouls. To stay stealthy, wait for the right moments to silently take down enemies and avoid unnecessary fights, especially if you prefer to conserve your health.
### How to Defeat the Ghouls
When facing ghouls, a stealth approach often works best. For instance, get a jump attack to eliminate some enemies quickly, then follow up with regular or stealth kills on others. Use your special sight to locate blue planks or other interactable objects to access higher areas. Be strategic—wait for enemies to turn their backs before striking and use the environment to your advantage.
Once you clear the room, you can jump through a hole in the roof on the other side to reach the rooftop, which concludes the main part of the quest. There, you’ll meet Fabien again, and choosing the dialogue line “Unusual, to wake to a kind word” will keep him in a positive mood.
