Although Nilan and Vriden come from the same village in GreedFall: The Dying World, they have very different opinions about the world and what’s best for their people. Nilan is quick-tempered and driven by his feelings, which can make his decisions more unpredictable.
He usually has good intentions, but he doesn’t always make the smartest choices. As Vriden Gerr, it’s your job to guide him. Here’s everything you need to know about the choices and outcomes in the quest “Nilan’s Revenge.”
Nilan’s Revenge Quest Walkthrough
This mission takes place in the Kel Dag Desert, where you will encounter some Deidae and Monkey Workers before reaching the ruins’ entrance. As you get close, you’ll see a group heading inside the ruins.
Enter the ruins, where you’ll find a puzzle involving stone slabs on the ground, each engraved with a different pattern. Inside, large stone walls move when you walk on these slabs. One side of each wall is stationary and has an engraved image similar to the slabs’ patterns.
The puzzle is solved by positioning your party members on specific slabs that match certain patterns on the wall. The correct slabs are:
- Four half-moons
- Small circle in the center
- Plus-sign cross
- Four full moons
Once the puzzle is solved, the gate opens. Proceed around to the next level, where you’ll face Deidae enemies before moving forward. At the top, a rebel village awaits. Nilan is there, giving a speech to his followers.
He’s decorated the village to look more like home. Nilan plans to connect with the land here and attack the city. Your task is to persuade him to abandon this dangerous plan and rejoin your party.
If you choose to try convincing him, a scene follows where you can speak to him. If you fail to persuade him, he will bond with the earth and become a frightening creature, flying away forever. This means he won’t rejoin your team, you can’t romance him, and you’ll miss out on specific late-game achievements tied to Nilan.
Save your game before starting this scene, just in case something goes wrong.
Best Choices in the Quest
The optimal approach is to first discuss the retaliation from the Continentals and then speak to Nilan in Teer Fradean. If you previously talked to his parents back home, or if you can successfully lie about seeing them, you’ll be able to convince him to stand down and avoid conflict.
If you didn’t speak with his parents and can’t lie convincingly, it’s best to reload a previous save. Use all available items to boost your stats and improve your chances of persuading him.
