Building strong relationships with other travelers in Where Winds Meet makes the game more engaging. You can never be sure what fun or mishaps might happen with friends or strangers. As you play more, you might find yourself caring more about certain people or many others.
Getting started with these relationships can be challenging, but we’ll guide you through it so you can make the most of each important bond. Here’s everything you need to know about adding friends, building connections, and forming sworn alliances with your closest partners across Qinghe—and what benefits they might bring.
How to Build NPC Relationships
Unfortunately, you can’t romance NPCs in Where Winds Meet. However, you can develop friendly bonds with them by doing good deeds. When you complete quests or help NPCs, your relationship strength with them increases.
The higher your affinity, the more rewards you’ll get. These include unlocking their personal stories or gaining better items from merchants. Being kind to NPCs is worth it, but beware—attacking someone or acting badly could damage your relationships or even get you expelled from your sect.
Some NPCs also have AI chat features, so you can have more meaningful conversations. While these chats are mainly for fun and roleplay, they can sometimes lead to interesting or humorous exchanges. You might not be able to date these characters officially, but you can talk your way into convincing them otherwise.
Tip: Building relationships with NPCs is just as important as with other players. Take time to chat and explore—they can provide valuable information and helpful tips.
How to Build Player Relationships
Unlike most games, Where Winds Meet emphasizes roleplaying elements to make friendships feel more real. You can be friends with anyone, but only one person can be your master trainer, helping you improve your skills.
Over time, your friendships will deepen, unlocking new rewards and tokens that can be used in shops. Open the social menu to start connecting with others!
Note: Some features are exclusive to online mode, but co-op and team activities work even in solo play. If you don’t have friends to team up with immediately, you can look through the application boards inside the game to find others seeking social connections. Think of it as an in-game dating app, helping you find allies based on schedules and play styles.
What is a Master and Disciple Relationship?
A master is a player who’s reached level 50 and has chosen to mentor others. Masters act as guides, and working together on activities earns both parties rewards. You can also do minigames together to boost your bond.
A master can have up to five disciples at one time, but you can only have one master yourself. Disciples continue training under their master until they reach level 40, at which point they can choose to graduate. Graduation signifies the end of your time together but also prepares you to mentor others eventually.
Reward: Graduates receive a unique title to remember their journey.
Once you hit level 40, along with certain game milestones, you can apply to graduate from your master. After graduating, you’ll leave your sect and won’t be able to rejoin it. But don’t worry—you’ll be ready to start mentoring your own disciples, either by recruiting friends or browsing a list of players looking for a master.
How to Increase Intimacy
Your friendship level with another player is called intimacy. You can boost this by spending time together in each other’s worlds, completing shared objectives, and giving special gifts. There’s a weekly cap on how many points you can earn, so be mindful when you explore.
As intimacy grows, you might unlock quests or ceremonies to deepen your bond. Keep journeying together to strengthen your friendship, whatever form that takes. Here are the different levels and their benefits:
| Intimacy Level | Rewards |
|---|---|
| Acquainted | 10% more adventure slips during fellowship and play with friends. |
| Companions | Follow and move together with your friend; 15% more adventure slips. |
| Kindred | Receive notifications when friends come online; unlock a two-player emote; 20% more adventure slips. |
| Comrades | Borrow outfits from friends weekly; 25% more adventure slips. |
| Allies | Friends can join your multiplayer room directly; teleport to you in the same scene; 30% more adventure slips. |
| Harmony | Borrow outfits twice a week with extra time; 35% more slips. |
| Enduring | Friends can directly join your team; 40% more slips. |
| Sworn | Borrow outfits with extended time; unlock exclusive friendship badges; 45% more slips. |
| Destined | 50% more adventure slips. |
| Vowed | 55% more adventure slips. |
How to Romance Other Players
Finding love in Qinghe and beyond is a special journey. You can seek a romantic partner by joining a team with someone you like and visiting Shi Yimo at the Crimson Cliffs. Here, you can perform a Destined Union or form a partnership, mostly for roleplay.
These bonds are for fun, but there’s also a unique shop with special items and outfits only available if you’ve committed your heart. Marriage is open to all players, regardless of gender.
Note: If you join the Velvet Shade sect, you might be able to marry multiple players, but this is optional and not available on all servers.
