Throughout Pokémon Legends: Z-A, especially in the Mega Dimension DLC, humans and Pokémon often work together in many ways. If you’re curious about how certain Pokémon moves can help people, the side mission “Octolock Away The Pain!” offers a clear example.

In this mission, you’ll learn how to evolve Clobbopus into Grapploct. As a reward, you’ll also fill your collection of technical machines (TMs). This side quest introduces you to the fascinating benefits of evolution, helps address back pain, and demonstrates how Pokémon moves like Octolock can be applied in real-world situations.

How to Start “Octolock Away The Pain!”

Before beginning, you need to progress through the main story in the Mega Dimension to unlock additional side missions in Lumiose City. After completing Hyperspace Mission 3, also known as Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No. 2, you’ll have access to Side Mission 138: Octolock Away The Pain!

You can find the mission by heading to a pin marked outside the Rust Syndicate office. Go west then north until you reach the area labeled “Bleu Sector 4,” near some greenery. From there, turn left and move forward until you spot an alleyway on your right. Follow this alley, go down a small staircase, and you’ll see a man hunched over in a tunnel. Approach him—his name is Kazuki—to start the side mission.

How to Get a Grapploct with Octolock

Once you learn about Kazuki’s back issue, the first step is to obtain a Grapploct. To do this, you need to evolve a Clobbopus. If you haven’t caught one yet, Clobbopus is usually available in Hyperspace Wild Zones, particularly among other Fighting-type Pokémon.

To evolve Clobbopus, teach it the move Taunt. When it reaches level 35, the Evolve option will become available in the menu. After evolution, teach the newly evolved Grapploct the move Octolock, which can be learned immediately after it evolves. Using Octolock on Kazuki will help improve his condition, and completing this action ends the mission.

What Rewards Do You Get?

Kazuki will be thrilled to be free of his back pain and will reward you accordingly. Your rewards include a valuable TM and the addition of Grapploct to your Pokédex, especially useful if you haven’t already evolved one before this mission. Having Grapploct with the move Octolock is a step toward understanding how Pokémon moves can assist in practical, everyday problems.
