In Grounded 2, it’s odd that one of the most dangerous resources is just a simple rock. But obtaining EverChar Coal Chunks is very risky, and without careful planning, you might not make it out alive.
The reward for this dangerous resource, however, is huge. With EverChar Coal Chunks, you can power ovens and craft the best torch in the game.
Where to Find EverChar Coal Chunks
The easiest place to find EverChar Coal Chunks is at the Fire Pit. It’s located on the north end of the park, just northeast of the Picnic Table. You can see it from almost anywhere because it emits large plumes of smoke.
Look for the chunks in the hottest parts of the firepit. These are usually next to the burning rocks around the metal frame or inside the fire itself.
Note: The Fire Pit is very dangerous. Besides the heat, it is home to Stink Bugs, Bombardier Beetles, Larvae, and even ORC Cockroaches.
How to Mine EverChar Coal Chunks
Mining EverChar Coal Chunks requires a Level 2 Omni-Hammer. You can unlock this at the Ranger’s Station by providing:
- Ladybug Head
- Lingonberry Leather (x3)
- Raw Science (x2000)
Getting the hammer isn’t hard, but the real challenge is the sizzle. Every time you’re near the chunks, your sizzle level gradually increases, which damages your health until you start burning.
While you can’t become completely immune, you can resist sizzle long enough to break the chunks by wearing the Sizzling Armor Set, which includes:
- Sizzling Robes
- Sizzling Boots
- Sizzling Circlet
You should also collect 16 mint shards. Doing so unlocks the Fresh Defense mutation, which helps reduce sizzle and resist burning.
At a Smoothie Station, you can make a Mintito Smoothie. It immediately lowers your sizzle and slows its build-up, giving you more time to break the chunks. To make it, you’ll need:
- Mint Shard
- Ice Splinter
- Nectar
Tips for Mining
Speed is key. You need to quickly approach the chunks and break them before your sizzle gets too high. If your resistance is low, back off and cool down before continuing.
Using EverChar Coal Chunks
Getting even one Chunk is a game-changer. It lets you craft the EverChar Torch, which lasts much longer than any other torch. Instead of burning out, the torch will gradually degrade and break unless you repair it with another Chunk, allowing you to keep your light source for longer.
You’ll need the following to craft the EverChar Torch:
- EverChar Coal Chunk
- 2 Stinkbug Parts
- 2 Bombardier Parts
- 2 Silk Ropes
Once built, maintaining it simply requires adding one EverChar Coal Chunk whenever it degrades.
Additional Uses for Chunks
EverChar Coal Chunks can also be used to craft the EverChar Flare. This device emits a long-lasting light when thrown, making it especially useful for builds that involve two hands or dual weapons, since they can’t wield torches.
Note: The Spicy Coaltana, a powerful sword from the first game that requires an EverChar Coal Chunk, is not available during early access in Grounded 2. The recipe exists, but without spicy globs, it cannot be crafted.
