The Mesa biome in Peak is full of threats and dangers as you explore the hot desert, with little relief from the intense heat and sand. Luckily, sometimes you can find some cute animals to relax with for a bit.
If you’re familiar with other Peak biomes, you’ll know about the Capybaras that hang out in pools in the Alpine areas. Since the Mesa biome update, you have a chance to find them in the desert too. Here are some tips to help you find these elusive furry friends in Peak.
How to Find the Capybaras in the Mesa Biome
If you’re looking for Capybaras in the Mesa biome, search for brown animals relaxing in nearby pools. These animals hang out in cool water, trying to escape the scorching heat of the desert. Because the Mesa and Alpine biomes take turns on the daily map rotation, you can’t always count on finding them.
The best places to look for Capybara pools are in flat, shaded areas with circular arrangements of palm trees. This is where they stay cool to avoid the burning sun.
They don’t usually appear in the same spots every time the map resets, so it’s worth exploring different parts of the desert if you don’t spot them right away.
Spotting the Capybaras
In the Mesa biome, the Capybaras enjoy sitting together in the water to stay cool. While in the Alpine biome, they are often found nestled on the mountainside, away from the cold winds, in the flatter, shaded parts of the desert.
Remember to bring binoculars from the Shore biome, as they make it easier to spot the Capybaras from a distance.
Pay Attention to Pools and Mirages
The pools they frequent can be tricky to spot because the desert climate causes heat mirages. These mirages show bright blue water with Capybaras inside, but they are just illusions. Actually, the real pools with Capybaras are a paler shade of blue.
When you get close, the mirages fade away, and the water disappears—along with your hopes of seeing the animals. Keep searching in different areas, as Capybaras can appear elsewhere as you explore. If you reach the large underground cavern spanning from one side of the desert to the other and haven’t seen a real pool, they likely haven’t spawned on that map.
