The Accident quest is the fourth main story mission in Chapter 2 of Where Winds Meet. It takes the young traveler deeper into Kaifeng’s underground, as they try to clear their name and recover the stolen Treasure Basin.
This quest is longer than most in Chapter 2 because it also involves completing the Unbound Cavern Campaign quest. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide for both quests, along with some helpful tips for dealing with any bosses you encounter.
Accident Main Quest Walkthrough
Begin by heading to South Gate Avenue in Kaifeng and talking to Big Zhao. Join him as he introduces you to the others. Decide where you’d like to sell your “Treasure Basins.”
Regardless of your choice, the process is the same: go to the selected location, sell your items to local people, then return to Yingying in the Forsaken Quarter. After counting your earnings, hide the bag of Tang coins from the authorities and watch the scene unfold. Once Lord Shi leaves, go back to Granny Turtle’s house and listen to Yingying’s story.
Next, split from Yingying to look for Granny Turtle. Ask locals about her whereabouts, find her, and see her confronting soldiers with a widow. Defeat the soldiers, then follow Little Fu a little way until you overhear Lord Shi talking.
This will lead you to the next part: completing the Unbound Cavern Campaign quest.
Unbound Cavern
Head into the sewers, speak with the Bell Ringer, then keep exploring until you encounter a Nine Mortal Ways disciple being threatened by Unbound Cavern members. To save her, shoot and instantly kill the attackers with a headshot, then free and talk to the disciple. Make sure to activate the Boundary Stone before proceeding.
Open the iron gate, defeat some thugs, then unlock the door to the Ghost Revelry Hall. Inside, you’ll fight through three groups of enemies: the first group includes a few thugs, who can be handled with area attack weapons or one-by-one; the second wave features three Aureate Pavilion enemies, with the taller one connected by a green tether—target this one first to weaken the others; the third wave requires using Tai Chi to break their shields before fighting normally.
After clearing the hall, speak with the woman and then go to the second floor. Explore the hallway end, following it around until you find a door with singing. Open it to enter.
The Faceless
Inside, you’ll confront the Faceless mini-boss. Her attacks are quick and can be difficult to parry, with some strikes seemingly impossible to block. No special mechanics are involved; focus on learning her rhythm, dodging, and timing your parries. Wait for a good opportunity—like after a counterattack—to strike safely.
Once she’s defeated, talk to the woman nearby, then exit through the door and hallway.
Unbound Cavern Thugs
In the next room, defeat the thugs and rats, then find a passage to the left of the iron grate. You can run past the rats, ducking under the grate to proceed to the next area.
This next room is full of thugs. Use Touch of Death to quickly take out some enemies, then finish the rest. Head up to the second floor, confront more thugs, and interrogate Xiao—you can choose to kill him afterward if you wish.
Open the door, drop down into a room with two weaker Faceless enemies, and be cautious. Proceed through a narrow passage to a larger room filled with more Faceless. Sneaking through is risky but possible; however, expect to be detected. When fighting multiple foes, rely on strong parrying or turn on Assist Deflection.
After overcoming this challenge, you’ll face Zhuxie Gule.
Zhuxie Gule
Zhuxie Gule is a mini-boss with aggressive, fast attacks that can be parried or dodged. Watch out for two major gold attacks:
- The first involves him charging at you, smashing with a swing—stay clear to avoid damage.
- The second has him stay in place, repeatedly bashing his mace while his bird flies over, healing him. Step back to avoid the mace, then shoot his bird to stop the healing.
Warning: During the gold attack, there’s a high chance of falling off the platform, resulting in instant death—stay mindful of your position.
Zhuxie Gule has a low stagger threshold, making him vulnerable to repeated hits or parrying—use this to cancel out his attacks whenever possible.
Dao Lord
After defeating Zhuxie Gule, swim through the underground passage until you pass out and wake up on the shore. Continue forward to reach the Dao Lord’s arena.
The Dao Lord fight has two phases. In phase one, he uses sweeping attacks that inflict blindness—disengaging your lock-on and limiting vision. His health isn’t high, so well-timed parries and counterattacks will bring him down quickly.
In phase two, he transforms into three different children, each wielding a unique weapon and move set. Focus on eliminating them one by one. When they go underground, shoot each one with an arrow to knock them down and make them vulnerable.
Post-Boss Area
Defeat the Dao Lord and follow the tunnel until you pass out again, waking on the shore. Progress into the Ghost Market area to find Little Fu in the Strange Barrel.
Follow the footprints south into the market to find Little Shou in a building. Talk to him, climb onto the roof, walk a bit, then drop down to find Little Lu.
Bring Little Lu back to where you found Little Shou, then speak with all three. They will lead you to the dock, completing the quest.
