Winter in Phasmophobia tends to turn cozy nights into unsettling experiences, and Winter’s Jest 2025 is no different. As snow blankets haunted houses and familiar spots, Krampus makes a return to remind players that the holidays can be sinister.
This seasonal event adds a festive flair to ghost investigations. With maps rotating daily, special mechanics available only for a limited time, and a shared community progression, Winter’s Jest encourages players to do more than just identify and leave a ghost. This guide explains how the event integrates into your investigations, what to watch out for, and how to maximize the rewards at the end.
How does the Winter’s Jest event work?
Winter’s Jest is Phasmophobia’s holiday event from December 16th at noon GMT until January 6th at noon GMT. The event relies on collective community effort: every investigation completed on active event maps contributes toward unlocking special rewards for everyone.
During the event, only certain locations count, and these maps change daily. These snow-covered versions of familiar locations include Nell’s Diner, Tanglewood Drive, Ridgeview Court, Willow Street, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Maple Lodge Campsite, Camp Woodwind, and Point Hope. They are marked on the map as a red present icon.
You can replay the maps as many times as you want, and every successful investigation helps push the event’s progress forward.
While the main gameplay—finding the ghost, completing objectives, and surviving—stays the same, new mechanics are added. These include Krampus’ Presents and Jack-in-the-Boxes, which are directly tied to the event’s progression.
How to find Krampus’ presents?
At the start of each Winter’s Jest map, there’s a sack belonging to Krampus along with a Naughty and Nice list. The list features small icons representing presents hidden throughout the location.
Your goal is to find these presents during your investigation and toss the right ones into Krampus’ sack. Correct deliveries earn event points, which are tallied once the investigation ends. Presents are scattered across different rooms, and sometimes multiple copies of the same type appear in different spots.
Delivering the correct presents will reward you with a bonus investigation kit—such as incense or Sanity Pills.
It’s crucial to match the presents exactly to the list; placing the wrong item will anger Krampus. When that happens, the sack fills with coal and can no longer receive presents for the rest of the investigation.
Here are the possible presents around each map:
| Krampus Present | Image | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Candy Cane | A classic holiday candy. | |
| Elf Doll | ![]() |
A small doll resembling an elf. |
| Snowman | ![]() |
A snowy holiday figure. |
| Rocks | ![]() |
Small stones or pebbles. |
| Sticks | ![]() |
Pieces of wood or branches. |
| Coal | ![]() |
Coal, often associated with bad children. |
| Capybara | ![]() |
A small rodent, less typical but included. |
| Gingerbread | ![]() |
A festive cookie. |
| Christmas Tree | ![]() |
A decorated holiday tree. |
| Nutcracker | ![]() |
A traditional holiday figurine. |
| Deer | ![]() |
A symbolic holiday animal. |
| Stars | ![]() |
Decorative stars for the season. |
Matching presents carefully is essential, as Krampus reacts negatively to wrong choices, filling his sack with coal, which then becomes unusable for the rest of that investigation.
What are Jack-in-the-Boxes?
Jack-in-the-Boxes appear as red boxes randomly spawning in Winter’s Jest maps—though they aren’t present in every investigation. Interacting with one starts a short, unpredictable countdown, during which the box may suddenly pop open, delivering a scare before vanishing. Successfully finishing the investigation without dying while a Jack-in-the-Box is active will earn you event points.
What are the event points and rewards?
Event points are the currency for Winter’s Jest progress, earned by correctly identifying the ghost, completing optional objectives, interacting with Jack-in-the-Boxes, delivering the right presents, and playing on higher difficulty levels.
You can check your points and progress on the Bulletin Board in the game’s lobby. Community points contribute toward shared rewards, unlocking goodies for everyone when enough points are reached. Personal progress tracks your individual contributions, unlocking extras like cosmetic upgrades and trophies.
The rewards for participating include the Winter’s Jest 2025 ID Card and an upgraded Foil ID Card, among other special collectibles.
