Ice Splinters are a rare crafting material you’ll need in Grounded 2. Although they’re used for only a few recipes, the items you can make with them are crucial for surviving in the park. Make sure to collect a few whenever possible.
You can’t get Ice Splinters right after starting at the Orientation Center. You’ll need to prepare carefully to avoid freezing to death before finding them.
Where to Find Ice Splinters
Ice Splinters are common in only two frozen areas: the Ice Cream Van located in the center of the map, and the freezer box on the Picnic Table. These zones will increase your Chilliness the longer you’re in them, so you’ll need ways to reduce your chilling effects. Crafting a Fuzzy armor set provides the best protection, but you can also use spicy shards, carry a torch, or brew Blazin’ Brew Potions to stay warm.
Ice Splinters are fairly common once you can safely explore the frozen zones. You’ll find them sticking out of walls or dropped when chopping frozen grass.
How to Bust Icicles
To collect Ice Splinters, you’ll need to break icicles. Chopping frozen grass with a level one Omni-Axe is easy and will yield some Ice Splinters. For more Ice Splinters from icicles, use a level two Omni-Hammer, which can be unlocked at a Ranger’s Station for 2,000 Raw Science, three Lingonberry Leathers, and a Ladybug Head.
How to Use Ice Splinters
As of early access in Grounded 2, there are three ways to use Ice Splinters:
-
Hydration: You can eat Ice Splinters to quickly regain thirst. Since they can stay in your backpack forever, they’re a handy, portable water source if you haven’t crafted a canteen yet.
-
Brewing Smoothies: Ice Splinters are ingredients for two smoothies—Lady in Red and Mintito—made at a Smoothie Station.
Name Ingredients Effects Lady in Red Ladybug Part, Lingonberry Chunk, Ice Splinter Heals, increases max health Mintito Mint Shard, Ice Splinter, Nectar Heals, reduces sizzle, slows sizzle increase rate -
Crafting Armor: The fuzzy armor set offers the best protection against the cold in the frozen zones, so collecting Ice Splinters is important for gear upgrades.
Eating 16 spicy shards will unlock the Spicy Safety mutation, which grants even greater resistance to chill.
How to Obtain Ice Splinters
In the early stages, chopping frozen grass with a level one Omni-Axe is the easiest way to gather Ice Splinters. Breaking icicles with a higher-level tool, like the level two Omni-Hammer, yields more Ice Splinters. You can unlock the Omni-Hammer at a Ranger’s Station for 2,000 Raw Science, three Lingonberry Leathers, and a Ladybug Head.
