Mega Stones are your main source of power and crucial for winning in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. However, these powerful items can be expensive and, in some cases, hard to find. When you first gain access to Mega Stones, you’ll likely need to limit your options because not all of them are immediately available.
Fortunately, some Mega Stones can be obtained for free. They might not be easy to get, but those who are willing to put in effort and explore will be rewarded. To truly stand out as the hero of Lumiose, you’ll need something special—making these stones essential on your journey.
All Stone Emporium Mega Stones are available at the start of the game but are costly. You’ll need a Mega Ring to use them, which you get by defeating Mega Absol in “Chase That Mysterious Pokemon!” The store is located on Vernal Avenue, just south of the Vernal PokeCenter, housed in a purple building.
The store sells Mega Stones for Poke Dollars, with prices depending on the stone. Here’s a quick look at some of the prices:
– Gengarite, Medichamite, Abomasite, and Scizorite each cost 50,000 Poke Dollars.
– Garchompite, Steelixite, Kangaskhanite, each cost 70,000.
– Charizardite X and Y, Blastoisinite each cost 100,000.
All Quasartico Mega Stones can also be purchased but require Mega Shards, which you earn from breaking purple rocks around the city. You won’t be able to access Quasartico until you’ve defeated both Dedenne guards in “The Secrets of Mega Evolution.” The list of Mega Stones available at Quasartico increases as you progress in the story, especially after defeating key trainers whose Pokémon’s Mega Stones are then added to the shop.
Here are some of the Mega Stones available from Quasartico, along with their costs in Mega Shards:
– Pidgeotite, Manectite, Houndoominite, each cost 180.
– Gyaradosite, Lucarionite, Pinsirite, each also cost 240.
– More exotic stones like Alakazite, Drampanite, Excadrite, with costs ranging from 360 Mega Shards.
Some Mega Stones are earned through story missions rather than purchases:
– Absolite is obtained by defeating the Rogue Absol in “Chase That Mysterious Pokemon!”
– Meganiumite, Emboarite, and Feraligite are given by AZ at the start of “The Secrets of Mega Evolution,” depending on your starter Pokémon.
– Other stones like Slowbronite, Victreebelite, Cameruptite, and various others are earned by defeating Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon in specific story challenges.
Event Mega Stones for the starter Pokémon Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught are distributed through the Ranked Battle system. Each season awards a different Mega Stone based on your performance. To qualify, you must reach Rank K in the weekly online battles, which involve three-minute matches against four opponents.
During these matches, success depends on defeating Pokémon efficiently, quickly grabbing items, being the first to Mega Evolve, defeating Mega-Evolved foes, and using effective moves. Your placement determines your points: first place earns 30 points, second gets 10, third loses 10, and fourth loses 30. Accumulating 50 points grants you the ability to earn the seasonal Mega Stone, even if you don’t end the season at Rank K.
