When playing Hytale, you’ll likely spend a lot of time crafting and upgrading. To do this, you need various resources, including leather, iron, and linen scraps. One resource that can be confusing is Darkwood.
There is no single item named Darkwood in the game. Instead, it’s a category of wood, not a specific type. The actual wood you want is Cedar Logs, which are a kind of Darkwood. Here’s a simple guide on how to find and use them.
Hytale is still in early access, so details might change later on.
Where to Find Darkwood
To get Darkwood, look for Cedar Log trees. These trees are easy to spot because of their blue leaves. You can find them mainly in the Whisperfrost Frontiers zone, an area known for being cold and snowy.
The exact location of this zone can vary for each player. Just look for snowy parts on your map.
You’ll recognize Cedar Log trees by their tall stature, brown pinecones, and especially their blue leaves. Most other trees have green leaves, so blue is a good indicator. You can even use your map to find blue-leaved trees, since they are marked with the same color. When you find one, cut it down with a hatchet.
Uses of Darkwood
Darkwood is often needed to upgrade workbenches to higher levels. But overall, its main purpose is for building.
Using a Builder’s Workbench, you can craft many wooden items from Darkwood. These include darker-colored planks, stairs, beams, fences, gates, and various furniture pieces like tables, chairs, and doors. Most of these items are distinguished by their darker appearance compared to normal wood, giving your constructions a richer look.
Here’s everything you can make at the Builder’s Workbench with Darkwood:
- Darkwood Planks (including ornate and decorative styles)
- Darkwood Stairs & Half Slabs
- Darkwood Beams
- Tavern Platform
- Darkwood Roofs (flat, standard, shallow, steep)
- Darkwood Fence & Gate
- Tavern Ladder, Window, Wardrobe, Door, Trapdoor
- Tavern Table, Chair, Bench, Stool, Shelf, Sign
This variety allows for detailed and darker-themed constructions, giving your builds a unique style with dark, rich wood.
