Porygon is among the new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A through the Mega Dimension DLC. While it would have been a great opportunity for Porygon-Z to receive a Mega Evolution in this game, there’s no new Mega form for it at this time.

However, you can still catch Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z to add to your team. The game makes it a bit easier to get the final evolution by including a side quest where an NPC is willing to trade. All you need is the right items and a Porygon.

How to Get Porygon

Most of the new Pokémon in the Mega Dimension DLC can be found in Hyperspace Wild Zones, which appear randomly across the map. To find Porygon, look for a Normal Type Hyperspace Wild Zone with at least a 3-star rating.

You won’t see Porygon directly listed in the zone description because you might not have unlocked it yet, but you can often recognize its silhouette. Keep in mind, Porygon can spawn in zones even if it isn’t listed, so persistent checking is helpful. If you’re having trouble, it’s recommended to rest on a bench and reset your search several times, which is faster and doesn’t waste donuts if Porygon isn’t there.

When you finally find a zone with Porygon, match your Donut’s star rating to the zone to make catching it easier. If you’re aiming for an Alpha or Shiny Porygon, you can reset its spawn by traveling a bit across the map or fast-traveling back to your last portal.

Evolving Porygon into Porygon-Z

Porygon evolves through a two-step process, starting with Porygon becoming Porygon2, then evolving into Porygon-Z. Both evolutions happen by trading while holding specific items.

You can trade Porygon with an NPC for a side quest, which doesn’t require you to give him the Upgrade item (so you can keep your items). Once traded, Porygon will evolve into Porygon2 because Trian has given his Porygon an Upgrade.

To evolve Porygon2 into Porygon-Z, you’ll need to trade it again while holding a Dubious Disc. Trian will give you this item during the side quest. After completing the trade, your Porygon-Z will be ready.

Side Mission: Porygon’s Polygon Count

As you progress through the DLC, new side missions unlock automatically. One such side mission is “Side Mission 167: Porygon’s Polygon Count.” To start, visit Trian, who stands between Bleu Sector 6 and Bleu Sector 9. He’ll be with a Porygon named Alias.

Speak with him, and he’ll offer to trade his Porygon for one of yours. If you already have a Porygon, you can proceed with the trade; if not, come back once you’ve caught one. The trade doesn’t require giving him the Upgrade, making it easier.

Although traded Pokémon often have unique nicknames, the benefit here is that Trian doesn’t ask for the Upgrade item during the trade. The trade gives you his Porygon with the Upgrade already applied; it won’t evolve automatically, but it’s a crucial step.

How to Obtain the Upgrade and Dubious Disc

If you want the items needed to evolve your Porygon2 into Porygon-Z, you can find them in Hyperspace Zones within 4-star or 5-star floating Poké Balls. These items are randomly dropped, so it can take a while to get them.

Using a special Donut with an Item Power of at least 400 (Sour flavor) can improve your chances. Remember, it’s a random process, and patience is necessary. Saving your game before trying increases your odds because you can reload if you don’t get what you need.

Acquiring the Items

To get the Upgrade and Dubious Disc:

  1. Fast travel to the Nouveau Cafe (near Wild Zone 12).
  2. Take the stairs around the water to reach a small tunnel leading to the Hyperspace Dimension.
  3. Inside, find Trian. He’ll give you the Dubious Disc.
  4. To get the Upgrade item, farm in Hyperspace Zones by obtaining 4- or 5-star Floatings Poké Balls, with a higher chance using a Donut with the Item Power: Special.

Once you have both items, trade your original Porygon to Trian for his. Then, trade your Porygon2 with the Dubious Disc to him, and you’ll both end up with the original Pokémon now evolved into Porygon-Z. Just make sure to do the trades in the correct order, and you’ll complete the evolution chain.
