In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, your starter selection includes three Pokémon not originally from the Kalos region. However, you can also obtain each of the starter Pokémon from Pokémon X and Y, including Froakie and its evolved form, Greninja. Where To Find Froakie
Before you can locate Froakie, you must unlock Side Missions after talking with Emma. Then, head to the northeastern part of Lumiose City. From the Jaune Pokémon Center, go north along the outer ring, following the path until you see a construction worker named Surv standing next to scaffolding with Froakie.
Speak with Surv to learn about his side mission titled A Challenge From Froakie. Completing this challenge is necessary to recruit Froakie.
How To Complete A Challenge From Froakie
You must complete three obstacle courses to impress Froakie and move forward with your mission.
The first obstacle requires you to finish the course in less than 30 seconds. Once you complete it, Froakie and Surv will run off, signaling the next challenge.
The second course is slightly longer, requiring you to finish in under 40 seconds. Move quickly up the platforms and cautiously cross beams to avoid falling. Upon completion, Froakie will laugh and dash off again.
The final challenge is near the north area by the Rouge Pokémon Center, where Surv indicates there’s one last course. This one takes about 50 seconds to complete, giving you ample time.
To succeed, climb the ladder, then roll across the gap to the next scaffolding using the Y button. Carefully traverse the narrow beam, position yourself on the angled beam, and roll across to the next platform. Turn left and cling to the final platform, shimmy across, and reach Froakie to complete the challenge.
If you miss a step, restart the course, as it’s difficult to recover from mistakes later.
Upon finishing, you’ll be rewarded with:
- Froakie at level 14
- Three XS Candy
- One S Candy
- 1,800 Pokédollars
Evolving Froakie into Greninja
Train Froakie up to level 16 to evolve it into Frogadier. Then, at level 36, Frogadier will evolve into Greninja.
