How to Find and Evolve Clefairy in Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Completing & Solving

Clefable is one of the most dependable Fairy-type Pokémon you can find in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. However, for most of the game, the only way to get its evolution, Clefable, is by evolving Clefairy using a special item called a Moon Stone. This item can only be obtained in a few locations within Lumiose City, so you’ll need to hunt for it.

As players learn when battling Jacinthe during the story, being able to Mega Evolve Clefable makes it an even more formidable fighter. But to Mega Evolve Clefable, you’ll also need the Clefablite Mega Stone, which has a specific unlock requirement. To add Clefable to your Pokédex and equip its Mega Stone, here are the key details.

How to Get Clefable
Throughout most of the game, evolving Clefairy into Clefable is done by using a Moon Stone. Simply open your bag, select the Moon Stone, choose ‘Use,’ then pick a Clefairy in your party, and it will evolve immediately. The advantage of using evolution stones is that their use isn’t limited by your Pokémon’s level, so you can evolve Clefairy right after catching it.

Where to Find Clefairy
The best place to find Clefairy or Cleffa for evolution is Wild Zone 19 at night, where they dance under a gazebo in groups. Many of these Pokémon might be Alpha, which are stronger and rarer, so keep refreshing the spawn by fast traveling back there if you don’t see one right away. From the entrance of Wild Zone 19, head left and uphill till you reach the gazebo.

You can also find Cleffa in Wild Zone 19 late in the game after completing Main Mission 30, ‘Reaching Rank B’. During the post-game, Clefable can be caught as an Alpha Pokémon in the same zone, specifically near Centrico Plaza Tower. This area has a spawn pool of over 50 Pokémon, making Alpha Clefables a rare find. Keep fast traveling to refresh spawns; one should eventually appear.

How to Evolve Clefairy into Clefable
Clefairy evolves into Clefable when its friendship level is high enough, similar to other games. Building friendship can be done by catching it in a Luxury Ball, keeping it in your party, and taking it to Lumiose City cafes. The more you care for it, the faster it will level up its friendship.

How to Get a Moon Stone
There are several locations to find Moon Stones, with the easiest being the northeast rooftop of Passage de la Felicite, a large shopping arcade in Lumiose City. To access the roof, head to the northeast corner of the mall (left of ‘Bleu Sector 6’ on the map), climb scaffolding, and gather two colored screws on your way up. The Moon Stone is then waiting as a red Poké Ball on the roof.

You can also find a Moon Stone in Lumiose Sewers during Mission 20, ‘A Request from the Rust Syndicate,’ at the top left of the sewer map. It’s not available at first but becomes accessible after you revisit the sewer for this mission.

Another location is west of Café Gallant, in the middle of Estival Avenue between Wild Zones 10 and 5. Climb the building’s roof near the chimney after taking the Holovator at the far bottom right.

Additionally, the Stone Emporium sells Moon Stones for 3,000 Poké Dollars after completing Main Mission 39, ‘The Infinite Z-A Royale.’ However, this store only stocks Moon Stones after that point, so earlier in the game, you’ll need to seek them elsewhere.

How to Catch Clefable in Wild Zone 20
Post-game, Clefable can be found as an Alpha spawn in Wild Zone 20, which unlocks after finishing Main Mission 38, ‘The Future of Lumiose City.’ Located under Centrico Plaza Tower, it’s a central spot, and one or two Alpha Clefables spawn here. These spawns are rare, with over 50 Pokémon in the pool, but by fast traveling repeatedly, an Alpha Clefable should eventually appear. Be prepared for a tough fight since Alphas are around level 60 and can cause chaos with other Pokémon attacking.

How to Get the Clefablite Mega Stone
To Mega Evolve Clefable, you’ll need the Clefablite Mega Stone, which is available for purchase at Quasartico’s Mega Shard Exchange for 240 Mega Shards. To access this, you must complete Main Mission 31, ‘A Summons from Vinnie,’ as the shop doesn’t stock it earlier. Once bought, give Clefable the Clefablite to hold, enabling its Mega Evolution to be part of your team.
