One of the new Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A through the Mega Dimension DLC is Charcadet. This exclusive Generation 9 Pokémon has two evolutionary paths, both of which you can obtain in the game, but it will require some effort.
Charcadet appears fairly early in the game through Hyperspace Distortion Wild Zones. However, to evolve it into either Armarouge or Ceruledge, you’ll need to complete a side quest. This side mission only rewards you with one of the evolutions, so you’ll have to do extra work if you want both.
How to Get Charcadet
To find Charcadet, check the Hyperspace Distortion Wild Zones in Lumiose. Typically, Charcadet shows up in 2-Star Distortions, but these distortions are random. Sometimes you’ll encounter one immediately, and other times it may take a while — it all depends on luck.
When you find one, use a Donut purchased from Ansha with a matching star rating to increase your chances of catching it. Inside a Distortion, you’ll find several groups of Charcadet, providing multiple chances to catch one.
If you’re aiming for a shiny or an Alpha, you can reset the spawns by moving away and returning, but keep track of your time. Once you catch at least one, or two for your Pokédex, exit the Distortion to proceed with evolving them.
Complete Side Mission 132: Bitter Blue Flames Vs. Blazing Crimson
While Charcadet can be found in the Hyperspace Distortion Wild Zones, you cannot evolve it yet. Similar to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Charcadet needs a special item to evolve into its two forms: Armarouge or Ceruledge. To evolve into Armarouge, you’ll need the Auspicious Armor, and for Ceruledge, the Malicious Armor.
To access these items, start Side Mission 132, which is located between Vert Sector 7 and Vert Sector 8. The easiest way is to fast travel to Racine Construction, then take the road left of the building. You’ll meet a character named Adver, standing next to a Charcadet on the road. He will challenge you to a battle after offering you either the Auspicious Armor or the Malicious Armor, depending on your choice.
Choose one armor to receive it, and he will give the other to his evolved Charcadet as well. After that, you’ll need to battle his evolved Pokémon—either Armarouge or Ceruledge. This battle is a one-on-one rematch, so you’ll want to clear your party of other Pokémon beforehand. Adver’s Pokémon will be at level 60, but winning isn’t necessary to complete the quest.
Important: Adver won’t give you the other armor or duplicates, so be sure to pick the one you want to keep, especially if it is a shiny or an Alpha.
How to Evolve Charcadet into Ceruledge and Armarouge
You will only start with one armor after completing the side mission. The other armor or additional copies generally aren’t available in shops or at Racine Construction until after the DLC’s post-game.
You can trade with other players to get the other evolution or duplicate armor, but most players will only have one during the main game, making trades unlikely unless the other player has finished the DLC. Still, trading can help complete your Pokédex or obtain a shiny, then trade back.
