In Patch 1.5.0 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a brand new area was added. It’s a strange location that reflects what Verso’s imagination was like when he was a kid—bright colors and lollipops fill the scene. You’ll also encounter someone Verso describes as the villain of all villains.
This villain is Osquio, who looks a lot like Esquie but appears more evil. However, most of the perception of his evilness seems to be role-play, since he doesn’t seem to do much wrong. Still, he’s a tough opponent you’ll need to defeat. Here’s a complete guide to the fight against this not-so-mean villain.
How To Find Osquio
Osquio is located at Verso’s Drafts on the map, which is in the southern part of the Continent. When you arrive, head straight towards Osquio. He’s at the far end of the region from the starting point. If you look in the distance, you might see a mountain with Osquio’s face on it—he resembles Esquie. That’s where you need to go.
Reaching the Mountain
Make your way down the hill and veer to the right. Eventually, you’ll arrive at the base of the mountain. Take the magical train sitting there to climb all the way up to the top.
The Arena
Once you reach the summit, you’ll see the arena where Osquio will await. When you enter Esquie/Osquio’s head, you’ll be taken to a place called the Root of All Evil. Search for the area with all the fire-breathing Esquies—that’s where the boss fight begins. Before climbing the stairs to face Osquio, look for a flag you can use to prepare for the battle.
Osquio Boss Fight
While Osquio isn’t the hardest boss in the game, he’s still challenging. If your party members are below level 80, it’s best to wait before fighting him. Even at higher levels, wait until your characters reach the 90s to give yourself a better chance.
The fight has two phases. The second only starts after you’ve completely depleted his health in the first phase, effectively meaning you have to defeat him twice.
Osquio’s Attacks
Here is a breakdown of his main attacks during the battle:
- Flying Gracefully: Osquio flies up, then teleports around before slamming down multiple times at different speeds—hits 4 times.
- Very Strong Fists: His fists light up, and he lands a series of punches with a big finishing blow—7 hits.
- Summons His Little Friends: He calls five heads in the air that shoot at you, then jump at your party—total of 11 hits.
- Fast Ball: He curls into a ball and fires himself at you from multiple directions—6 hits.
- Pew Pew Pew (Phase Two): He thrusts his hips, and his belt fires a series of blasts, with the last attack delayed—12 hits.
- Dropkick (Phase Two): He uses his belt to attack, then unleashes several moves before finishing with a gradient attack—7 hits.
- Destroy the World (Phase Two): When his health gets very low at the end of the second phase, he throws a large energy ball. If you don’t time your gradient counter properly, you’ll lose the fight—just 1 hit.
In phase two, any hits you take will give you the Barbapapa status effect, reducing your damage output to just one. You can remove this by attacking or using a skill on Osquio, but only one stack is removed per hit. If he stacks many on you, your offensive capability drops significantly.
How To Beat Osquio
Osquio doesn’t have specific weaknesses, so you can use any of your preferred party members. The first phase is straightforward: focus on parrying his attacks and using your best skills.
The real challenge is the second phase because of the Barbapapa effect, which dramatically lowers your damage. Parrying is especially important here—it helps you land big hits and keeps the Barbapapa stacks from stacking up too high. You can also try building a strategy around long-range, free-aim attacks since they aren’t affected by the Barbapapa status, though it’s tough to deal enough damage this way.
Another tip is to set him on fire, as he still takes burning damage. Ultimately, timing your parries correctly will be the key to winning this fight.
