If you’ve played and completed Borderlands 3, you might recall the rare end-game currency called Eridium. This resource was key in obtaining powerful weapons that boosted your strength during the late stages of the game. Eridium is making a return in Borderlands 4.
While earning Eridium can be challenging, there are several effective methods to gather it quickly. Keep in mind, not all techniques reward the same amount of Eridium. Knowing the best ways to farm for this currency can greatly simplify the final phases of the game.
Best Ways to Farm Eridium
The good news is you can start collecting Eridium as soon as you pass the opening levels of Borderlands 4. Many main missions also have Eridium attached as rewards, in addition to cash and XP.
As you progress through the story, you’ll naturally collect Eridium. Relying solely on passive income might not give you enough to spend in the later stages. Employing the following strategies can ensure you have a healthy supply by the endgame.
Complete Contracts from the Contract Board
These side activities are found on Contract Boards in safe zones across Kairos. Most involve simple tasks like eliminating a target, retrieving an item, or defeating a set number of enemies. You can take up to five Contracts simultaneously, making this one of the most efficient ways to earn Eridium, since many of these missions reward it directly.
Complete In-Game Challenges
Throughout your journey, you’ll passively complete Challenges while playing story missions or side activities like Contracts. To check your Challenges, go to the Missions tab in the main menu and select the Challenges section. Here, you can see which Challenges you’ve completed, what remains, and prioritize which to complete next. Doing this alongside other methods maximizes your total Eridium earnings.
Replay Missions and Side Missions
Missions and side quests can also help build your Eridium stash, especially if you replay them. Although solo completion might yield small amounts, replaying missions—especially those that originally offered Eridium as a reward—can significantly boost your earnings. Always confirm whether a mission can be replayed and if Eridium is obtainable afterward.
How to Use Eridium
Since Eridium is an end-game resource, you’ll typically spend it after completing the main story. Here are some key uses:
Use Moxxi’s Big Encore Machine
During boss fights, you gain access to a machine that lets you spend cash to reset the boss. Repeating this process with the Big Encore unlocks better loot, including legendary weapons. Once you reach the endgame, this becomes a valuable method for farming top-tier gear.
Caution: Respeccing bosses in this way can make fights more difficult, so it’s wise to bring a partner for these runs.
Respeccing Your Specialization
In the main story, skill points are earned for the primary Skill Tree. Endgame grants access to the Specialization Tree, where you can unlock powerful Skills. In safe zones like Faction Towns, you can spend Eridium instead of cash to respec your Specialization Skills, allowing you to tailor your abilities more effectively.
Use Zane’s Firmware Transfer Machine
Unlocked in the late stages, this device allows you to transfer special effects from one weapon to another, destroying the original in the process. Combining weapon effects can create powerful, customized gear—making fights more dynamic and potentially more rewarding.
