You can spend Data Points on various things, but it’s best to focus on certain research areas first. Here’s what you need to know to earn Data Points quickly and where to spend them first.
### How to Get Data Points
Data Points are gained by researching resources at the Analyzing Station and then using them to unlock recipes or complete contracts at the Corporate Terminal. You can earn Data Points from:
– All resources except ore
– Spider sacs
– Old tech found on dead bodies and in abandoned stations
You unlock the Analyzing Station by completing the level 1 contract for Moon Energy Corporation.
Early on, it’s important to explore the land thoroughly and gather everything you find. Many resources can be immediately sent to the Analyzing Station since you don’t need them for recipes yet. Artifacts from dead bodies and abandoned stations can give hundreds or thousands of Data Points, but these are rare. The main focus for farming Data Points should be renewable resources that appear on the land.
When fighting spider-like enemies, some drop sacs which can be analyzed for extra Data Points. Right after a rupture wave, it’s a good idea to explore the land and underground caves for high-value items like Ignitium, Meteorite Hearts, and Glowcap. These items, when analyzed, yield a significant number of Data Points and are better farmed in the underground caves, especially right after a rupture wave, because they appear more frequently during this time.
Both Ignitium and Glowcap give a lot of Data Points—90 for Glowcap per piece—and are also used in other recipes. When looting after a rupture wave, exploring underground caves for Glowcap is highly recommended. These caves also contain Quartz ore, which cannot be analyzed, but the Glowcap plant itself is very valuable for Data Point farming.

3. Collect Ignitium on your way, but leave meteorites alone for now—they can be harvested later.
4. In the cave, farm every Glowcap you see.

7. You should be able to visit at least two caves before they close.
8. If multiple caves are clustered, build a Base Core and Habitat nearby to wait out the next wave.
