A strong economy is essential in any extraction shooter, and it’s no different in Marathon. Your level of preparedness depends on how lucky you are when looting and the quality of gear you start with. High-quality equipment requires Credits, which are the main currency in the game.
Credits are used to buy items and gear from the Armory. But after several runs, you might find it tough to save up enough. In this guide, we’ll share some tips on how to farm Credits effectively in Marathon.
How to Get Credits
There are two main ways to earn Credits in Marathon. We’ll cover them below.
First, upgrading your Credit limit is important. On the CyberAcme Faction tree, there’s an upgrade that increases your wallet capacity. The first upgrade costs 2,500 Credits and raises your limit to 20,000. There are four more upgrades you can unlock to increase it further.
Find Loot and Credits During Runs
Your top priority should be to find good loot during your missions. You can always check how much an item is worth by hovering over it, but you need to exfil safely to bring your loot back.
Initially, focus on grabbing everything you come across. As your storage capacity improves, you can be more selective. When your inventory is full and there’s nothing more to do, focus on escaping alive. Keep an eye out for uncommon items that can give you extra profit.
Always compare the rarity of loot with what you already have. Rarer items tend to be more valuable. The game sorts loot by rarity from least rare to rare: Grey, then higher levels.
Important items to watch for:
- Valuable Items: Marked with a money bag symbol, these are auto-sold when you return.
- Data Cards: Items that give Credits instantly to you and your team, even if you die. They’re found in containers, on shelves, or on the ground.
- Credits: You can pick these up directly from fallen enemies or found in containers, but most often, they’re dropped by defeated Runners.
Look for locations known for frequent conflicts and locked rooms, as they usually contain valuable loot. Using free Sponsored Kits can help protect your gear and save resources, and consider the Rook Runner Shell class, which is designed for scavenging and gathering loot with less risk.
Selling Equipment
After a successful run, you can sell items in your Inventory or stored in the Vault. Check prices carefully to decide what to keep and what to sell. Selling gear allows you to rebuild your Vault with Sponsored Kits, free weapons, and other items earned through Faction Contracts and upgrades.
However, heading out on runs without solid gear can be risky, so balance your sales and purchases to ensure you’re well-prepared for each mission.
