Xelios is the third major boss in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It waits for Samus Aran at the end of the Volt Forge after powering up all three towers and learning to ride the elegant machine called Vi-O-La. However, even after just earning this vehicle, it doesn’t play a part in the fight.
Xelios appears as a living, electricity-like creature in the form of a hostile pink orb surrounded by metal panels. To defeat it, you’ll need to gradually dismantle these panels.
How To Defeat Xelios
The battle starts quickly, with Xelios launching green energy projectiles from all directions. These are fairly easy to dodge, offering little threat as they come at you from various angles.
Target the pulsating hexagonal metallic tiles that emerge from Xelios’ body and shoot at them regardless of other obstacles. Destroying these tiles reveals the pink orb inside.
Once a tile is destroyed, focus your fire on the pink orb. Use your free aim to quickly take out multiple tiles, which is the most effective way to reduce parts of Xelios’ defenses.
As you expose the pink orb, keep firing at it. Be prepared to dodge incoming fire that intensifies as the fight continues and Xelios becomes more aggressive.
After taking enough damage, Xelios will dash across the arena and burrow underground, leaving an easily avoidable area attack. Jump over this and keep following Xelios as it re-emerges to continue the fight.
Xelios then starts unleashing a barrage of small pink orbs that fly towards Samus. They are not highly accurate, so strafing and jumping are effective ways to dodge them.
Keep destroying the tiles and targeting the pink orb. The boss will then release its most annoying move: a green energy blast over its head. When this attack appears, a force field surrounds it, revealing that you’ll be shocked if you touch it directly. To escape, change into morph ball form and detonate a bomb on yourself to break free. Afterward, quickly move away from the area to avoid the massive AoE attack that follows.
Later, Xelios will panic and start firing random bursts of green lightning across the arena. These shots are not targeted and can be dodged with regular strafing and jumping.
When its health drops past the halfway point, Xelios throws out large green orbs that can be dodged with careful timing. Trying to evade them in morph ball form won’t be fast enough, so stay alert.
As the boss gets cornered, it will attack with a single, powerful green lightning strike. This move is deadly and requires perfect timing to dodge — it’s arguably Xelios’ strongest attack.
Keep repeating the pattern: avoid attacks, destroy the tiles, and focus your fire on the pink orb. By sticking to these strategies, you’ll eventually wear it down and earn a new double jump ability for your efforts.
