Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater features complex characters, but Colonel Volgin’s moral standing is quite straightforward. He is the game’s clearest villain—an evil person who commits murder, abuse, and is generally a terrible human being. It’s satisfying to have the chance to take him down.
However, fighting him isn’t easy because he is a huge man with lightning powers. The battle also has a time limit because the C3 explosive you planted is about to go off. So, you must defeat him quickly. Here’s all the essential information to help you succeed.
Volgin’s Attacks
Volgin has several attacks he’ll try during the fight. Here’s an overview of each one and the best way to handle them:
Attack | Description and Tips |
---|---|
Close Range Punches and Charges | He charges at you with punches. Dodge by running out of his way before he gets too close. |
Single Line of Lightning | He unleashes a slow-moving lightning attack that follows you slightly. It’s easy to dodge—just run away. |
Rapid Fire Bullets | He sweeps and fires a barrage of bullets. When he’s about to shoot, dodge left or right. Keep moving to stay ahead of the bullets. |
Bullets Everywhere (Phase Two) | He gathers many bullets around him and fires them all at once. Go prone to make the bullets fly over your head. |
Multiple Lines of Lightning (Phase Two) | He upgrades his lightning attack with a second line. It’s harder to dodge but going prone usually works. |
Lightning on the Floor (Phase Two) | He lays down lines of lightning just above the ground that can shock or cause you to trip. Rolling over the beams helps to avoid them. |
How to Defeat Volgin
In the fight, CQC (Close Quarters Combat) is your strongest tool—especially when he’s not electrified or swinging punches. When he’s vulnerable, run up and press the CGC button to throw him to the ground. This action lowers his stamina and leaves him open to more attacks.
Keep this in mind: Ocelot might seem to have his own health bar, but don’t worry about him. Sometimes, he distracts Volgin to help you.
When you see Volgin on the ground, you can finish him off. Use a gun with a “DMG” symbol if you want a lethal kill. For a non-lethal option, choose a weapon marked with “ZZZ” or “STN.” You can also roll onto him to cause non-lethal damage—though it might look funny, it works effectively.
Be cautious with your ammo, especially if you’re using a gun, because Volgin’s electrical attacks can damage your bullets. Only equip your gun when you’re ready to shoot, then quickly unequip after firing.
This CQC and shooting approach works in both phases of the fight. Keep doing it until he runs out of health or stamina. If you drain his stamina, you’ll earn the Cold War camo.
Because of the countdown timer, you need to be quick and aggressive. Finish the fight before time runs out to emerge victorious.
