Many bosses in Gears of War: Reloaded follow similar tactics, such as simply unloading your weapon until they drop. However, each boss has unique patterns and moves, adding a layer of complexity to the fights that makes them more challenging than they might seem.
The Corpser boss is a good example. Because it’s a large creature, you’d think shooting it would be enough to defeat it. But, due to how the Corpser defends itself and fights back, the battle can be confusing at times.
How to Start the Corpser Boss Fight
When you first face this spider-like beast, it appears during the second act as it stalks you. You won’t actually fight it then, since it only surfaces from the ground briefly. The real battle begins during the final chapters of Act 3, specifically in the chapter called “Angry Titan.” This fight is short but tough if you don’t know what the creature can do.
How to Defeat the Corpser
When the Corpser drops into a corridor, there’s very little space to dodge because it takes up a lot of room. When it strikes, dodging can be difficult. It’s best to keep your distance so its claws can’t reach you, which also makes it easier to fire steadily.
If any of its claws hit you, it could mean instant death, so maintaining distance is crucial for safety.
Target Its Weak Spots
Shooting at the Corpser might seem pointless at first because its claws and head are heavily armored. Shots tend to be deflected, and the claws often cover its face to protect itself. Instead, focus your fire on its weak spots, mainly its chin and stomach.
Time Your Attacks
Watch for when the Corpser lifts its claws away from its face; this is your moment to fire at its lower body. You’ll see that it’s reacting to your attacks when it starts moving backward or shows signs of discomfort. The key is to fire during these windows.
Use Grenades Wisely
Grenades can cause significant damage, but if you throw one when its claws are down, it won’t hurt the beast. Wait until the claws are raised or moving away before lobbing grenades at the weak spots to maximize damage.
Finish the Fight
As you push the Corpser back towards a ledge, it will eventually stand on a platform. There are two clamps on either side of the square platform. Shooting both clamps will destabilize it, causing the creature to fall into the caverns below filled with imulsion.
After hitting the clamps, a cutscene plays showing the Corpser emerging from the pit but falling back down, signaling the end of the boss fight.
