Like many roguelite games, your success depends on both your skill and the abilities you acquire along the way. Cinderia follows this pattern. However, some general strategies can be useful regardless of your build.
This knowledge is crucial when facing any of the game’s bosses, including the very first one, Ashen Adjudicator. Also known as Baron De La Muerte, this boss can be challenging even at the beginning of your journey.
Where to Find the Ashen Adjudicator
You fight the Ashen Adjudicator at the very end of the first region in the game. This initial area doesn’t have a specific name, but it’s the first zone or chapter. The boss’s room is easy to spot. Just ensure you’re prepared before entering. Keep in mind, the room you get beforehand isn’t always a store where you can buy supplies, so choose your rooms wisely.
Ashen Adjudicator Moveset
The boss fight features two main phases, with the same core boss behavior but increasing in aggression and complexity as the fight progresses.
Phase One involves a simpler set of moves, giving you time to get accustomed to fighting the boss. The boss has a limited move combination initially:
- Small Enemy Summon: The fight begins with a few small enemies appearing around the arena. These can be resummoned after defeat, but slowly.
- Cascading Sword Slam: The boss charges up their sword while standing still, then slams it down, causing waves of damage that spread across the arena based on the boss’s facing direction.
- Forward Sword Slash: A quick slash in front of the boss, usually after they catch up to you.
- Charge: The boss glows orange and charges across the arena. Physical contact during this move causes damage.
Phase Two kicks in when the boss’s health drops to around 60-70%. It’s more aggressive, with additional attacks and more enemies summoned:
- Large Enemy Summon: The boss brings out big sorcerer enemies that attack from a distance. These enemies are quickly resummoned after defeat.
- Multi-Charge: The boss performs multiple charges in succession, with only brief pauses, making it harder to predict.
- Stomp: The boss leaps into the air and slams down, damaging everything nearby.
In the later part of the fight, the boss returns to the center of the arena when health is low, but this doesn’t significantly change the battle.
How to Defeat the Ashen Adjudicator
The fight is relatively straightforward if you focus on a few key tactics. The first phase is slower, with fewer wide-reaching attacks, so it’s better to stay behind the boss, where you’re less likely to get hit and can deal bonus damage with backstabs. This strategy works in the second phase as well, although opportunities to stay behind are less frequent because the boss moves more.
In the second phase, avoid seeking out the additional enemies summoned. Instead, focus on managing them when you’re near, but prioritize attacking the boss. The biggest threat is the multi-charge attack, which can be performed repeatedly—up to five times in a row—and moves quickly. Losing sight of the boss during this move can lead to easy hits, especially when running off-screen. Keep the boss in your view at all times.
When you defeat the Ashen Adjudicator, you’ll see the words “De La Muerte Kill” on the screen. Rewards include some healing items and two accessories that can help you in your adventure. Next stop: the forest!
