Bosses play a crucial role in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. They mark the end of your run with a tough fight, often involving multiple phases and a variety of attacks to watch out for. Thalaam is one such boss, mainly using melee strikes but also launching projectiles, which require you to stay alert or risk losing the fight.
While Thalaam can be challenging, learning his attack patterns quickly will help you beat him. Use these tips to help you win the battle.
How to Defeat Thalaam
Thalaam appears at the end of the Night Day in Kalina. He floats and combines strong melee hits with projectile attacks, making the fight dynamic and demanding awareness.
First Phase
Thalaam first moves in to attack with a straight-line charge, called a stampede, which he can do up to three times in a row. Wait until he finishes the last charge or interrupt before each one, as he prepares for about two seconds before charging.
He also performs jumps combined with ground slams within a small radius. These slam attacks track you, so always roll away when you see him coming down. You can land one or two hits afterward, but he often repeats this move multiple times.
Between his attacks, Thalaam might throw a small fireball, which is easy to dodge just by walking away.
Another major attack is a large AoE explosion. When he starts to charge this attack, stand near him, hit him a few times, then back away. You can also roll through the blast if timed right to avoid damage.
Second Phase
When you deal about 20% damage, Thalaam retreats to the center of the arena and gains a shield. He starts spawning small purple projectiles around him—destroy these by hitting them and then throw them back at Thalaam to break his shield.
After each projectile is launched, Thalaam will perform a different attack:
- Shockwaves: Jump over them.
- Fire projectiles: These explode after a few seconds, marked by red circles on the ground.
- Combination of attacks: He switches between shockwaves and fireballs as you try to hit him with the projectile.
Tip: Wait until the shockwave appears before doing anything else.
His attack patterns become harder in this phase, and he will leave a trail of fire with his stampedes and throw multiple fireballs that can explode after a delay. Avoid the fire trails and prepare for the increased challenge.
Third Phase
At around 60% health, Thalaam moves to the arena’s center but attacks differently. He throws a small fireball that, when hitting the ground, causes a shockwave you need to jump over.
He resumes his second-phase attacks, but now with extra difficulty: his stampede leaves a lingering fire trail, and he performs four stampedes in total. When he jumps and slams, Thalaam also throws several exploding fire projectiles.
He introduces a new threat: a slow-moving laser. You can see a line targeting you before it fires, giving you a moment to run away. Since it moves slowly, you don’t need to jump over it if you have room to dodge around.
When he nears defeat (around 10% health), Thalaam will regain his shield. During this stage, you need to attack the purple balls that appear with your backpack to deal damage while avoiding his attacks.
Rewards for Defeating Thalaam
Defeating Thalaam rewards you with two chests and an Alabaster Candle, completing the Blacksmith’s quest, New Days, Broken Tech. Using his materials, you can craft new weapons, like the Sun and Moon Ballad.
