With the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, players face a tough challenge ahead. You’ll encounter numerous enemies to eliminate, collectibles to find, and puzzles to solve. After gathering all the Teleporter Keys, your journey will lead you to the top of Chrono Tower.
Waiting for you there is the final boss, Sylux. However, this Sylux is much stronger than the robots he used earlier in the game. He has a lot of health and new attacks that deal heavy damage. The fight is divided into three phases. Here’s how to defeat Sylux and finish the game.
How to Defeat Sylux
Phase One
Sylux starts off aggressive and tough. When the fight begins, he becomes immune to attacks, and three nano arms grow from his body. These arms can only be damaged at the glowing green ends, so aim carefully. During this phase, Sylux mainly swings his nano arms around trying to hit you. His only attack here is this sweeping move.
Be sure to revive any allies who get knocked down quickly, as letting them die will end the fight. Focus on dismantling the nano arms by damaging their green tips. Once an arm’s end is destroyed, use the Psychic Lasso to pull it off. Sylux will panic and try to ram you in retaliation.
Repeat this process twice more for all three arms. Once they’re gone, Sylux becomes vulnerable for a brief period, during which you can shoot him with missiles. Afterward, his nano arms will grow into a dragon form, which is very volatile. Now, only his giant metal heads can be damaged. Watch for his new attack patterns, such as firing three fireballs at once or shooting angled fire beams. Stay back and let your allies draw his attention. Be cautious of small lava pools left by fireball attacks.
Keep an eye out for blue-glowing heads — Sylux will charge to grab you! Dodging this grab is crucial to avoid massive damage.
Phase Two
After taking around 40% of his health, Sylux will open a wormhole and pull Samus into it. Fortunately, this part is straightforward. It plays like an on-rails shooter, where Samus can only move up, down, left, and right.
In this phase, shoot Sylux while he falls and dodge energy blades he summons from the walls by quickly pointing your left stick away from the blades. Sylux will also attack with blaster shots and psychic whips. Move to the opposite side of the attack to dodge.
During the fight, Sylux will need to be slowed down. He’ll launch himself at you, and if he hits, he’ll stun you and steal an Energy Tank. Use your Boost Ball to catch up and ram into him, causing him to drop the tank. Use this opportunity to fire bombs nearby. After recovering, he’ll often revert to his human form, and you should switch back to your normal tactics of dodging his attacks and draining his health.
Once enough damage is done, the fight progresses to the final phase.
Phase Three
This phase resembles the previous ones but with more variety. Sylux remains damageable at any time and attacks with a mix of moves. Understanding his attack patterns helps in countering or avoiding them.
Sylux’s main attacks include:
| Attack | Description |
|---|---|
| Energy Slam | Sylux slams the ground, causing a shockwave you must jump over. |
| Energy Beam | Fires a straight beam in front; dodge by entering Morph Ball. Later, he mixes in beams at foot level. |
| Energy Rush | Charges and rushes forward, releasing energy; dodge by Morph Ball roll underneath. |
| Energy Wave | Rakes the ground with his gun, sending a wave; dodge by dashing left or right beforehand. |
| Grab | Spins and tries to latch onto Samus with an energy whip; dodge by Morph Ball and boost around the arena edge. |
| Beam Absorption | Teleports and absorbs all attacks; activate your visor and fire a Control Beam to stun him. |
| Morph Ball Theft | Turns into a Morph Ball and rams into you, stealing an Energy Tank; ram him back with Boost Ball. |
| Electrical Barriers | Leaves electrical barriers in Morph Ball form, which you must roll around to avoid. |
Start the fight by selecting your preferred element and shooting Sylux, mostly using missiles and elemental weapons. He’ll use a combination of the Beam, Rush, Slam, and Wave attacks, which are mostly avoidable with proper distancing. When his health reaches about 50%, he will start to teleport and perform more attacks, including charging energy orbs and slamming with his nano arms.
When Sylux begins to charge up an eye-shaped energy above him, switch to your visor and fire a charged Control Beam directly at him. This is the only attack that won’t be absorbed. Aim carefully to guide the shot into Sylux himself, not just where he appears to be.
As his health drops toward the end, Sylux’s attacks increase in frequency and intensity. He’ll fling multiple attacks simultaneously, but without introducing new big gimmicks, making him easier to manage as the fight nears its conclusion.
Once Sylux’s health is depleted, a cutscene will trigger, marking the end of your journey in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
