When playing through Where Winds Meet, you’ll face several multi-phase bosses, with difficulty varying based on the setting. Among these foes, you’ll encounter Murong Yuan and her Wooden Eagle when exploring Kaifeng, specifically in the Jadewood Court area.
To trigger her fight, you need to start a Lost Chapter quest called Jinming Pool: Petalfall Banquet. Completing this mini-story arc will lead to the confrontation with her. The battle is fairly simple in design, though it can be tough depending on the difficulty level. Here’s how to defeat her.
Overview
During the fight, Yuan has two stages: one where she fights solo, and another where she is assisted by a large Wooden Eagle. You’ll unlock this fight after finishing all main quests in Kaifeng.
You can also invite a friend via co-op mode or bring an NPC helper, which can make the fight easier.
Phase One
In the first phase, you’ll face Murong Yuan alone. The fight centers around her speed and range. She moves quickly across the arena and can hit from a distance, even though her attacks are melee-based. While she’s fast in moving around, her strikes aren’t very quick, so you should focus on constant attacks to pressure her.
Notably, some of her sword swings will glow yellow. When you see this, she’s preparing a charged attack, which needs to be dodged. While Meridian Touch can interrupt these charges, timing your counter precisely is challenging. The safest option is to be ready to dodge immediately when she’s glowing yellow.
Phase Two
In the second stage, her Wooden Eagle joins the fight. The bird mostly uses ranged attacks but will sometimes approach to strike with melee attacks. dodging or parrying is essential when the Eagle gets close.
It’s important to note that defeating the Eagle isn’t necessary to win the battle. You only need to lower Yuan’s health enough to end the fight. Focus on attacking Yuan directly and ignore the Eagle’s health bar.
When the Eagle targets you, the camera will shift focus from Yuan to the bird. At this moment, concentrate on blocking, dodging, or parrying to defend yourself. The Eagle will eventually retreat on its own, and you can return your attention to Yuan. Every attack aimed at the Eagle is an attack that could have been directed at Yuan, so wait for the Eagle to leave before resuming your assault.
Her attacks in this phase are similar to those from the first phase but include some special moves where the Eagle assists her. These can be parried, making Yuan vulnerable afterward, but executing the parry requires precise timing. Continuing to fight her as you did in the first phase should be enough to overcome her.
