Mewgenics features a wide range of strange and creepy characters for players to encounter throughout their long, often tense journey. These include NPCs that can assist you in reaching your goals and numerous enemies eager to end your run early. Expect to face many boss fights, varying from simple to very complex and challenging, with everything in between.

For instance, Magnus is a relatively easy boss overall, but he can be quite annoying when you’re just starting out. He has a good amount of health, inflicts heavy damage, and can cover a lot of ground, making him tough to keep up with. As you complete more runs and unlock stronger Collars and items, he will become easier to handle. However, early on, he can easily end your run before it even gets going.

Magnus Overview

Magnus is a middle-point boss in the game’s first region of the first act. He won’t be too difficult, but he can still seriously disrupt your progress if you’re unprepared. While he becomes less of a threat as you advance and improve your gear, he remains dangerous when you’re just starting out.

He is quick, can chain attacks together, and always keeps his distance from your units, making him a challenge to hit consistently. He hits hard, so it’s important to be mindful of your team’s positioning and placement.

Magnus Information

Boss Type Mid-Way Boss
Region Act One: The Alley
Max HP 70 HP
Potential Drops Bear Traps (Weapon), Upper (Trinket), Metal Plate (Accessory)

Note: Drops are randomly determined and can vary in quality. The list will expand as new items are added through gameplay.

Recommended Units

Collar Stats
Fighter Strength +2, Speed +1, Intelligence -1
Tank Constitution +4, Dexterity -1, Intelligence -1
Hunter Dexterity +3, Luck +2, Speed -2, Constitution -1
Mage Charisma +2, Intelligence +2, Constitution -1, Strength -1

Because Magnus appears as an optional boss in the Alley, you might not encounter him on your first few attempts. Unlocking better Collars, like the Thief and Cleric, can make the fight easier, especially since they perform better than the Fighter or Mage in this scenario. If you lack these, it’s still possible to defeat Magnus—using a Mage and Hunter to hit from a distance while your Tank absorbs damage, with your Fighter trying to flank him for maximum harm, works well.

How to Defeat Magnus

Like many first-region bosses, Magnus has only two main attacks but uses mobility and tricks to make fights difficult if you’re not ready. While he isn’t unbeatable, he can still shut you down if your team is weakened or your build isn’t optimal.

The key is understanding his limits, dodging his attacks strategically, and retaliating effectively to deal maximum damage.

Magnus’ Chain Dash

One of his most dangerous moves is the Chain Dash. He charges fiercely toward a target and then swiftly dashes left or right, covering large distances. This move makes him harder to hit and can allow him to attack more units in his path.

How to counter:
Keep your Tank in front of Magnus to draw his attention. Never position other units beside your Tank on his sides, as he will dash toward them after attacking the Tank. For your Fighter, try to strike Magnus from behind when possible—preferably from tall grass or after your Tank has pulled aggro again. Using the Thief Collar along with teleportation to sneak behind Magnus for backstabs can be very effective, allowing quick hits and rapid retreats. Healing support from the Cleric near your Tank helps keep him alive longer.

Magnus’ Spin

His other attack is a spinning move, where he violently twirls around, hitting everything close by multiple times. This attack is dangerous, especially if your units are outside the Tank’s protective area.

How to handle:
Position your Tank in front of Magnus and keep him in tall grass—most of Magnus’s Spin will miss or be less effective. Never put your ranged units directly in his reach, as they will likely be wiped out by this attack. The Fighter can sometimes be in the crossfire, so placing them in tall grass during this move helps mitigate damage.

Tips:
Using the Thief Collar allows teleporting behind Magnus for backstabs, then quickly retreating to safety. The Cleric should heal the Tank continuously, but avoid standing too close to him during his Chain Dash or Spin, or they risk being hit.

Summary

Magnus relies on speed and mobility, making positioning and timing crucial for victory. Keeping your Tank upfront to soak hits, sneaking behind him with quick characters, and maintaining good healing support will tilt the odds in your favor. The fight isn’t impossible, but patience and strategic planning are essential to overcome his attacks and land your hits.
