Mewgenics is finally here, giving players the chance to explore its dark, bizarre world filled with monstrous cats, tough enemies, and strange NPCs. From the makers of The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy, you can expect a twisted yet satisfying experience from start to finish. This is especially true with the many bosses you’ll face during your journey.
One of these bosses is Fenrir, which you’ll likely encounter early on but can be deadly if you’re not careful about his traps or how he operates. While he’s simpler compared to some of the more bizarre bosses, he can still give you trouble early in the game. With experience, you’ll learn to counter his tricks and handle him with ease.
Fenrir is a mini-boss in the middle of the Alley region in the first act. Like most early bosses, he doesn’t have many attacks, but those he does have are well-suited to his gimmicks, making him frustrating for beginners. Once you understand his patterns, defeating him becomes straightforward.
Before diving into how he fights, here are a few quick facts about Fenrir and tips on units that work well against him. You probably won’t face him until after beating some initial stages, which means you’ll have access to better Collars that make the fight easier.

Recommended Units
| Collar | Stats |
|————|——————————————————————|
| Fighter | Strength +2, Speed +1, Intelligence -1 |
| Tank | Constitution +4, Dexterity -1, Intelligence -1 |
| Hunter | Dexterity +3, Luck +2, Speed -2, Constitution -1 |
| Mage | Charisma +2, Intelligence +2, Constitution -1, Strength -1 |
Ranged units are best against Fenrir, so bring along your default Collars. Use the Hunter and Mage as your main damage dealers. If you have a Cleric, you can swap out the Mage, but be sure to include ranged abilities or weapons for your Tank or Fighter. Avoid replacing your ranged units because they’re essential for other bosses and regions.
This boss fight is more defensive, so don’t rush or get impatient—it can cause your team to crumble. Keep your Hunter and Mage active while others stay back unless they have strong ranged options.
How to Defeat Fenrir
Fenrir’s fight is unique and turns typical gameplay on its head, especially for early game battles. He’s fast, aggressive, and will take advantage if you slip up. He has only two main attacks, but mixed with his tricks and deception, they can be tricky to handle.
Fenrir is quick and fierce, often attacking twice or more per turn. He loves to spam Bear Traps, which appear briefly on the ground. These traps vanish shortly after placement, so remember where they are to avoid stepping on them. He tends to hide in tall grass afterward, increasing his evasion and making him harder to hit.
When he drops a trap, hover your cursor over it during your turn and stay still until your shot. Use ranged attacks or abilities to destroy the Trap because melee hits won’t work. Fenrir exists to be hit from afar, and his speed means he attacks frequently—sometimes multiple times in a row—so monitor the traps carefully.
His second attack, Hairball, involves throwing a sooty clump of hair over a wide area, causing decent damage. He doesn’t do this often, but when he does, it hurts. Position your Tank in the area or use abilities that intercept damage to protect weaker units. Staying in tall grass can raise your evasion, making it harder for Fenrir to hit you. If possible, focus your shots on him while keeping your defense tight.
Use items and active abilities wisely—they can turn the tide. Throwables and abilities that force Fenrir into tough spots will give your Hunter and other ranged units the chance to deal significant damage. Gathering support and attacking from afar is the key to success in this fight.
