The fight against the Ripper Queen in Borderlands 4 involves teaming up with both new Vault Hunters and some familiar Crimson Raiders heroes, but more mercenaries mean more chaos. When Zane goes off on his own without reporting back, it’s your job to find him before he does something reckless — even by his standards.
The mission gets more challenging as you go, with some tough obstacles along the way. If you need assistance completing the quest, this guide will help you get closer to bringing your team back safely.
How to Fix the Core Electrical Relay in Carcadia City
After saving Carcadia City, Levaine asks you to talk with the other Leaders about repairing the city’s systems. Start by speaking to Yorick outside the Leaders’ Chamber. Once finished, enter the room to the northeast of where Yorick stands and examine the power relay near the objective marker. This begins a task to destroy all Ripper Orbs that are disrupting the city’s power supply.
The Ripper Orbs glow red—some are bigger than others, making the smaller ones harder to spot. In the room where you first checked the relay, you’ll see one large orb on the floor and three hanging from the ceiling. Two more are in the northwest corner, slightly to the right.
Tip: Ripper Orbs can be destroyed with bullets. Just shoot until they break.
Look through the hole in the eastern wall to spot five more Orbs, including a sneaky one in the upper left corner. When all eleven Orbs are destroyed, Yorick will inform you that the grid is ready for reactivation. Flip the switch on the main relay you previously examined.
Next, go across the street to a machine showing a red error. Inspect it, then flip the switch left of it three times as Yorick instructs. This reactivates the city’s Fast Travel station. Return to the Leaders’ Chamber and flip the switch right of the entrance to turn on the vending machines.
Helpful: You can now offload loot picked up during Siege and Destroy. The Chamber also has a bank, a Lost Loot machine, and a Respec Station.
How to Cross Firedust Bridge
Outside, head to the elevated area southwest of the city. Turn all three valves there, sometimes requiring you to grapple to the top of pipes to turn the upper one. Doing this restores water to the city. Afterwards, Levaine sends you to Firedust Bridge to find Zane.
Note: Firedust Bridge is the only way into the western highlands of Carcadia Burn. The region isn’t straightforward to navigate, so follow the waypoints on your map and use ECHO-4 for guidance from Carcadia City or Rustical Hurl Silo if you’ve captured it.
When you reach the east side of the bridge, clear out the Rippers guarding it. Drop down to the ledge on the left side of the structure, turn the wheel on the control panel, and then glide across to the opposite side, repeating the process. If the bridge doesn’t lower completely, shoot the glowing orange supports to destroy them. Now, you can cross and continue into Carcadia Burn.
After crossing, eliminate any Rippers and speak with Quent before proceeding further into enemy territory.
Getting into the Ripper Refinery
Approach the main door of the refinery on the southwest. Use the intercom to talk to the guards—they’ll tell you to use the side entrance and to be ready with a password. To get the password, defeat the leaders of two camps to the north.
Eleri, the eastern camp leader, has an Invulnerability Orb that must be destroyed first. It’s armored and resistant to Corrosion and Cryo damage but is small and flies around her, so area damage can help. Brenda, the western camp leader, has no such protection but is locked behind an upper level that requires grappling to reach—a tricky spot near the back wall of the first area.
Both leaders drop ECHO Logs containing half of the password. Gather both halves, then go back to the refinery. Find a side area by following the wall clockwise, then climb up to find the side door. Use the buzzer to give the combined password and enter.
How to Disable the Jamming Device
Move through the refinery to the main yard where Zane is held. Fight off the waves of Rippers. After clearing them, have ECHO-4 hack the Dahl jamming device near the west side of the area. When the dialogue ends, climb to the platform above and ground slam the green target to disable it, restoring communication with Levaine and others.
More Rippers will attack—dispatch them, then take the center elevator down to the tunnels. Fight your way to the security bulkhead, wait for the conversation to finish, and then prepare at the vending machines before jumping down the chute to face Driller Hole.
How to Defeat Driller Hole
The first time you face Driller Hole, he won’t appear until you’ve defeated a wave of Rippers. In Encore battles, he shows up immediately. In both instances, expect large hordes of Ripper minions along with his hazards and area attacks. Keep your distance, attack from afar, and try to inflict Status Effects. Use cover and the central machinery to stay safe.
Tip: Driller Hole’s elemental resistance varies; check the icon next to his health bar before fighting.
He telegraphs his moves—whether he’s charging, firing his gatling gun, or spreading missiles—so watch him carefully. Moving out of his attack range and using Cryo weapons is effective, especially since he often resists Corrosion. Once his Armor is down, Incendiary weapons work well to finish him off.
How to Save Quent
After defeating Driller Hole, your last task is preventing Quent from losing his Bolt. Look at the ceiling machinery; there are green handles to grapple and orange pipes to shoot. Destroy all pipes and grapple all the handles within one minute, moving methodically around the room. This shuts down the machine and saves Quent.
Once your decision is made, the mission ends, and you’re called back to Carcadia City to prepare for the final battle against the Ripper Queen.
