Playing Hollow Knight: Silksong even for a short time quickly shows how challenging the game can be. You may find yourself repeating the same parkour sections or boss fights multiple times before succeeding. However, the main story path is generally easier than the optional routes.
These optional areas are where the game truly tests your skills, and one prime example is the fight against Disgraced Chef Lugoli. You’ll find this boss in the Sinner’s Road zone. Be prepared to move quickly and precisely to defeat it.
Where To Find Disgraced Chef Lugoli
To locate Disgraced Chef Lugoli, start in the Sinner’s Road area, which you access through the top part of Greymoor, just above Halfway Home. You’ll need the Faydown Cloak to reach this boss. Once equipped, enter Sinner’s Road and head to the right until you reach the edge of the area.
In the corner, you’ll see a double jump spot that leads you across the gap to the other side of a door—possibly one you’ve passed by earlier. Open this door and proceed further up on the right side, where a large gong awaits. Hitting this gong will start the boss fight.
It’s wise to use a nearby bench as a save point before you start, since this fight can be tough and defeat is common.
How To Beat Disgraced Chef Lugoli
The fight occurs in two parts. First, you must clear out two normal enemies that spawn and attack together. These enemies approach and swing their blades downward three times in a row. You can easily dodge these attacks by dashing to the side as they prepare to strike.
Once these enemies are defeated, Lugoli drops from the ceiling and enters the battle proper. Its attacks include:
Attack | Wind-Up & Description | Recommended Counter |
---|---|---|
Stomp Attack | The boss jumps high, then lands with force, spawning four muckmaggots that travel across the arena. | Dash out as it lands and then counterattack once it’s above you. |
Ground Slam | The boss charges its weapon behind and slams it down, creating damage in an area and releasing two muckmaggots in an arc. | Dodge closer immediately after the slam to avoid the muckmaggots. |
Dash Attack | The boss charges its lower body and then dashes forward a long distance. | Keep your distance to avoid getting hit. |
Underground Attack | Starting in the second phase, Lugoli burrows underground and re-emerges, spawning multiple muckmaggots. | Stay clear of where it’s coming up to avoid the attack. |
The boss has generous gaps between its attacks, giving you time to heal if needed.
The Muckmaggots Mechanic
A key mechanic in this fight involves the muckmaggots. If hit by their spawn balls, your silk bar gets tainted, preventing you from using the bind ability to heal yourself. To fix this, you’ll need to spend one bind to clear the taint.
To help avoid muckmaggots, you can acquire the Wreath of Purity from the Putrified Ducts area. Additionally, using tools like the Cogfly and Pollip Pouch together can significantly ease this fight by providing extra help.
