While the story may include elements of drama, mystery, and betrayal, Where Winds Meet isn’t afraid to explore the more explicit side of storytelling. It balances intense emotional moments with exaggerated scenarios that sometimes seem impossible to connect, like encountering a horse during a boss fight while trying to rescue your family and friends.
Dalang is no ordinary horse, and its size is enough to make this clear. This is a disturbingly muscular horse, which explains why Yi Dao told you to take them out first. Dalang can be quite challenging, so let’s go over how to defeat them once and for all.
Where to Find Dalang
Dalang is a main story boss encountered during the “Heaven Has No Pier” chapter of missions. In this part of the game, you’re trying to rescue Beard Guang and Ruby after your beloved Aunt Han suddenly disappears. She’s getting deeper into a mystery.
You try to infiltrate the outpost where they’re held, with Yi Dao suggesting you fight directly to save time. Instead, you deceive the guards, alerting them to your presence so you can sneak in and rescue Guang and Ruby. Things don’t go as planned, and you end up trapped in the same room as Dalang’s horse tamer, who desperately calls for Dalang’s help. The tamer finally breaks free of the doors, and there stands Dalang, proud and ready to attack you.
How to Beat Dalang
This fight occurs in two phases, so it’s important to save your healing supplies for later. Here’s how to survive both stages.
Phase One
In the first phase, Dalang and their horse-tamer are in the arena together. Many players might try to fight the horse-tamer first, thinking it will weaken Dalang, but that’s a mistake. You cannot defeat the horse-tamer, so avoid fighting them altogether. They will attack if you get too close, but their main goal is to stay back and let Dalang handle the fighting.
Your main focus should be Dalang’s health bar. Most of Dalang’s attacks can be deflected, so that’s what you should do. They move around a lot, which makes it tricky to keep up. Deflect all their attacks to reduce their energy (Qi), and strike when they pause.
Tip: When their Qi is nearly gone, attack aggressively before they perform their “Execute” move, as they get stuck in place until their Qi recharges.
Most of Dalang’s attacks involve charges and kicks that are fairly obvious. The trickiest move is their roundhouse kick, which appears suddenly when you’re close. Be ready for it. Their most powerful attack is their red-glowing slam. Dalang leaps into the air and crashes down, followed by several smaller slams. The key is to deflect just before they land. The red glow flashes beforehand, tempting you to deflect too early. Watch out for this.
Phase Two
In the second phase, the horse-tamer sacrifices themselves to give Dalang a second chance, leaving you face-to-face with Dalang alone. The fight mostly stays similar, but Dalang becomes more aggressive, with longer combos.
The biggest difference is with the red slam attack. It starts the same but lasts longer and is more unpredictable. Dalang adds ground attacks to the attack sequence, some of which are wide and hard to dodge. Because these big slams are red attacks, blocking isn’t an option—try to dodge them if you can’t deflect.
Aside from the more aggressive behavior, the fight is similar. Focus on deflection, and don’t hesitate to shoot arrows when Dalang is far away—they can help lower its health before going in for melee combat.
Tip: Use martial arts skills whenever possible, as they’re very effective at reducing Dalang’s Qi and speeding up the fight.
