Are you in the mood for a slime? Maybe a Big Slime? Good news, because this game has both! While this encounter isn’t the most complex or intimidating, it can still trip you up, especially since it’s located in the Cave region. That means you might find yourself low on health or short on important resources just when this adorable gelatinous creature shows up.

Big Slime Overview
You’ll find Big Slime roughly halfway through the Cave area in the first act. Its goal is to end your progress, forcing you to rethink your strategy and bring better cats to the fight. This mini-boss doesn’t offer much in terms of attack variety but can still wipe you out if you get greedy and don’t play smart.

Before we get into its moves and how to counter them, here are some recommended units and info that might help. Being a mini-boss in the Caves, Big Slime is more challenging than most bosses you’ve faced so far. But with proper planning, you’ll handle it easily.

For most first-act fights, a solid team includes the Fighter, Hunter, Tank, and Cleric. The Tank offers great defense, the Fighter packs a punch, the Hunter excels at sniping, and the Cleric provides vital healing. If you’re replaying the Caves, you might consider swapping some units—like replacing the Fighter with a Thief for more agility and tricks.

How to Defeat Big Slime
Big Slime, despite its cute appearance, can be a real threat if you’re not prepared. Fortunately, it only has one main attack, making it more manageable once you understand its moves.

Big Slime – Moving
The first move is simple: Big Slime moves onto a tile occupied by your units, dealing damage and pushing them back. It’s not very mobile, so you can trap it by surrounding it with units. We recommend placing your Tank directly in front of it, so it’s drawn to your Tank instead of squaring off with other weaker units. Keep your Cleric protected to prevent quick defeats.

Big Slime – Tackle
Then, Big Slime charges forward with its Tackle move, shoulder-checking a unit and giving decent damage. It doesn’t travel far, so after hitting, it stays put. Use this to your advantage by surrounding it, then unloading damage once it’s stunned or pushed back. Keep your Tank ready to absorb this attack, and consider using abilities that grant armor or allow repositioning to keep your team safe.

After the initial phase, it splits into smaller slimes:

Four Medium Slimes (16 HP each) appear once Big Slime is defeated. They are weaker but still dangerous if not handled quickly.
Defeating these creates four Small Slimes (4 HP each), which are easy to kill but can overwhelm your team if not cleared efficiently.

Handling the Medium and Small Slimes
Eliminate the Medium Slimes swiftly—they only have Tackle, but their damage is lower. Then, focus on the Small Slimes; a single hit will kill each. Their numbers can get out of control quickly, especially if all four are killed simultaneously, spawning a swarm of 16 Small Slimes.

Use traps like Flea Familiars, Bear Traps, or Brambles to help weaken the swarm. Once trapped, your units can mop them up with ease. Be careful to avoid overextending, especially if some of your units are injured, as the swarm can quickly turn disastrous.

This fight is tough but manageable with the right strategy, unit placement, and careful timing. Keep your team balanced, watch their health, and stay focused on overwhelming the slime before it can flood the battlefield.
