Dune: Awakening features five classes of skills, but you can only access four right away. The fifth class, the Planetologist, requires you to seek out a trainer in the desert to unlock their abilities.

Completing the first quest will grant you basic Planetologist skills. However, to acquire advanced skills, you’ll need to embark on a challenging journey, traveling across the vast world. It may take some time, but in the end, you’ll master all that the Planetologist has to offer.

Finding Imperial Testing Station No. 197

Your first advanced task for the Planetologist involves locating Imperial Testing Station No. 197, situated on the southern side of the Western Vermillius Gap. Upon arrival, drop into the large hole to reach the entrance; Derek will be waiting at the bottom, so be sure to chat with him.

Locating the Minimic Film Records at Station No. 197

After your conversation with Derek, your next step is to retrieve the Minimic Film records found within the station—a task you will become quite accustomed to.

Typically, these records can be concealed behind false walls leading into hidden areas. Once you start tracking the quest, they will appear on your compass, and we’ll guide you to their locations.

At this station, the area that looks like the entrance near Derek is actually the exit. Instead, you should navigate northwest through a wide rock tunnel until you find a doorway marking the true entrance.

You’ll soon encounter a green door. Go through this door and turn left to find the Film record in the adjacent room. Once you’ve collected it, you can return to Derek.

While you can continue exploring the rest of the station, no additional quest-related items are located within.

Returning to Derek’s Camp

Another frequent stop in this questline is Derek’s camp, which is located just above Imperial Testing Station No. 2 and about half a kilometer from Griffin’s Reach. After reaching the camp, talk to Derek, and he will ask you to head to Arakeen.

Flying to Arakeen

If you don’t possess your own Ornithopter, you can still fly to Arakeen or Harko Village for a fee of 2,500 Solari each time. For this guide, we’ll use Griffin’s Reach as it is nearby, but any Ornithopter pilot can assist you.

Finding Cyprian in Arakeen

Upon landing in Arakeen, climb the stairs and take an immediate right into the Salusan Bull. Go up two more sets of stairs and head to the back-right corner of the bar. Cyprian will be seated under an umbrella with a bodyguard nearby.

Once you’ve spoken with him, return to Derek’s camp to share your findings.

Finding Imperial Testing Station No. 76

Your next destination is Imperial Testing Station No. 76, located in the central part of the Jabal Eifrit Al-janub region.

Using a Survey Launcher and a probe can help you locate points of interest once you’re in the right general area.

Finding the Planetologist Inside Station No. 76

This time, you’ll find Derek inside the entrance, down the first set of stairs and in a cage between two doors. Be on the lookout for his unique glowglobe, which will help you spot him.

Locating the Minimic Film Records in Station No. 76

As you explore, you’ll navigate through several rooms. Eventually, you’ll discover a space with glass windows on the left side. Climb the staircase to reach this room and head towards the false wall in the back-right corner to find the Minimic Film Records.

The room immediately after this one is the exit, and it has no enemies, so you can head straight out.

You’ll also need to collect the keys to Derek’s cage, which are found in the first room after Derek, covered in plants. Afterward, it’s time to return to Derek’s camp.

Finding Thufir Hawat

When you get back to camp, Derek will ask you to visit Thufir Hawat, a Mentat located in Arakeen. Fly back there and head to the far side of the location where the pilot drops you off, to find the area without a roof.

Finding Sietch Tarl

Your next task is to locate Sietch Tarl before returning to Derek. You can find it on the border of the northern O’odham and the Western Shield Wall. There’s a noticeable gap in the rocks, and a map marker will lead you right to it.

Go inside this crevice, read the note located there, and then go back to Derek at camp.

Finding Imperial Testing Station No. 29

Next, head to Imperial Testing Station No. 29, located in the Hagga Rift, just northwest of Testing Station No. 23.

There’s a steep drop into this area—with no staircase like the previous station.

Meet Derek at this location, and once again, retrieve the Minimic Film record.

This Film record is adjacent to the final room of the station, meaning you’ll need to clear out the entire area.

Finding Imperial Testing Station No. 71

Your next stop is Imperial Testing Station No. 71, located west from the last one. Here, you will search for more Minimic Film records and another note.

These records are located relatively early in this station; stay to the left, and you will come to a branching path. The route on the left leads to the Minimic Film, beyond another similar door.

The other item you’ll need is found in the final room, where you will face multiple melee and heavy enemies. There are smaller rooms connected to this space, and one contains the note you need.

Back to Camp

After gathering everything, return to camp to speak with Derek one last time. He will share his final secrets of Planetologist knowledge with you, and you will have the chance to spend your skill points to unlock any skills you desire.
