In Crimson Desert, the game offers so many distractions from the main story. With numerous side quests, boss fights, hidden gear, and puzzles, you’ll easily find yourself exploring this large world without realizing it.
One of the puzzles you’ll encounter while exploring the sky islands of the Abyss is called the Forgotten Altar. You can access it after solving the Origin of Thoughts puzzle. This puzzle is quite straightforward but depends on whether you’ve unlocked a specific ability. Here’s how to complete the Forgotten Altar puzzle and what you’ll receive for your efforts.
Forgotten Altar Puzzle Solution
To get to the Forgotten Altar, first solve the Origin of Thoughts puzzle. Then, continue through the traversal section by following the blue light and using the fans to glide between the smaller islands. After passing through the teleporter, carefully hop across the floating platforms and activate the Abyss Gate.
Once at the Forgotten Altar, head left and look for a spherical Abyss Core lying on the ground. Use your Axiom Force to pick it up and place it on the podium above (as shown in the image). Be cautious of the thorn bushes around, as hitting them will cause damage.
Tip: You can burn away the thorns by using your Blinding Flash ability. Hold the Left Bumper and Right Bumper to activate it, then hold the Left Bumper and aim your crosshair at a thorn bush. After holding for a few seconds, the thorns will ignite and burn away.
After placing the Abyss Core into its slot, move to the right and locate a large fan hovering just off the main island. Flap up and land on top of this machine, which creates a large dust tornado. Be very careful when landing—falling into the machine could be fatal.
When on top of the machine:
Perform the Nature’s Sense skill. Note that this ability isn’t available at the start; you need to unlock it through an Abyss Artifact in the Spirit skill tree. You must fully level up Keen Senses first, which requires four Abyss Artifacts and raising your Focus skill to level 2. Once unlocked, stand on the machine and press both thumbsticks in to enter Focus mode. Keep rotating the right stick clockwise until the tornado slows down or stops. This will dissipate the tornado and give you access to a cage in the center of the island.
To continue, land on the cage, crouch, and do a Focus Palm Strike while facing downward. This causes the floor to rotate, dropping you into the cage. Inside, perform another Focus Palm on the floor switch to complete the puzzle and spawn the Abyss Artifact. Climb the walls and do one more Focus Palm to escape the cage.
Finally, approach the podium to claim your new Abyss Artifact. You can also explore more of the islands by passing through the triangular gate that appears behind where the artifact was obtained and using Axiom Force on the switch rising from the ground.
