Many of the bosses in Crimson Desert are truly frightening, but a boss named Sir Catfish doesn’t seem that intimidating at first glance. Despite his funny name, Sir Catfish is actually one of the toughest bosses you’ll encounter, especially if you have a fear of heights.
This boss fight is similar to the Reed Devil battle, where you’ll have to chase Sir Catfish around his entire territory in the southern part of Hernand. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about tracking Sir Catfish through Vellua and what rewards await you for defeating this powerful enemy.
How to Start the Sir Catfish Boss Fight
Before you can face Sir Catfish, you need to complete the “Beyond the Silent Waves” quest line, which is part of the Vellua Fishermen’s Guild faction.
As you progress through the Rumor-Ridden Fishing Village and begin the “Vellua in Peril” quest, you’ll reach the small fishing town where Sir Catfish and his pirate cultists are hiding out.
Once you arrive near the crop fields leading into the village, you’ll notice a large enemy force gathered there, including the big boss himself, Sir Catfish. When you get close, Sir Catfish will spot you and start attacking.
He tends to let the soldiers swarm you, making it easier for him to attack with quick hits and then retreat. Watch out for his swift strikes and body slams.
During the fight, Sir Catfish will use several attacks:
- Hit-and-Run: He jumps in to strike quickly then disappears, which you can block or parry.
- Body Slam: He leaps high and crashes down onto a marked red area. This move can’t be blocked, so dodge it.
- Whirlpool: He traps you in a water whirlpool. You’ll need to press a button to escape when prompted.
Your main strategy is to thin out his army, dodge his attacks, and counter with a Turning Slash (R1/RB + R2/RT). This combo does heavy damage and helps stagger him. After some damage, Sir Catfish will retreat, and the fight will pause for now.
How to Defeat Sir Catfish
Once you’ve rescued Lukas, the village chief, and continue with the “Shadows in the Mist” quest, you’ll get the chance to go after Sir Catfish in a final battle.
Head toward the map’s central part of Vellua, near the beach, where a large arena has been prepared for the showdown. Using the Vaporwalker boots here will give you better mobility and help you handle some of Sir Catfish’s attacks.
Start the fight by attacking early, but be ready for his multi-hit combos, which are more aggressive versions of his earlier moves.
He will also summon geysers that launch you into the air, giving you moments to analyze the battlefield before dropping back into combat. Use these opportunities to regain stamina and prepare for your next move.
During the fight, focus on avoiding his geysers and use Focus (by holding L2/LT) to dodge attacks effectively. This technique also helps you rebuild Spirit and land more Turning Strikes, letting you do significant damage.
What Rewards Do You Get for Beating Sir Catfish?
When Sir Catfish finally falls, he’ll warn you that it’s not the end and then retreat, leaving behind your prize: the Catfish Plate Helm.
This helmet isn’t just a fun cosplay piece; it has useful perks:
- Defense: 4
- Bonuses: Daze immunity and pirate disguise
- Special Effects: It can extinguish nearby bonfires with a heat removal ability (LT+RT / L2+R2) with a 2-second cooldown.
Once he escapes, he tells you this isn’t over, but your victory grants you a unique helmet that adds some style and benefits to your gear.
