“God of War: Sons of Sparta” is a new 2D side-scrolling game in the metroidvania style. In this game, you once again control Kratos, but this time, you’ll experience part of his youth, when he was a young Spartan warrior.
As you explore, you’ll face many dangerous enemies. To succeed, you need to upgrade your equipment by collecting hidden items and power-ups scattered throughout the game. Three main obstacles you’ll encounter are purple doors that seem impossible to break, metal bars blocking yellow switches, and clusters of blue flowers.
Here’s how to get past these obstacles and uncover all the secret paths and items:
### How To Destroy The Purple Doors
To break purple doors, you need to upgrade your Evergreen Flame at the Temple of Hestia. This upgrade is achieved by finding an Eternal Bale at a Sacred Monument and bringing it back to the temple. Once upgraded, your Evergreen Flame can demolish these doors.
Getting to a Sacred Monument connected to Hestia is only possible after you’ve advanced beyond the halfway point in the game. When you reach the Grand Cistern, head west from the corridor campsite into the next room.
In that area, perform a double jump from the ladder onto the raised platform in the top left corner. Interacting with the statue will cause it to drop an Eternal Blade. Pick up this item by holding down Triangle, then carry it to the Temple of Hestia.
Before reaching this point, you’ll need to make a detour. The main story will send you to The Sunken Agora. After clearing that region, you’ll be free to explore again, at which point you can bring the Eternal Blade to the temple.
To destroy a door, equip the Evergreen Flame, then press the right trigger (RT) and Square simultaneously. This performs a Dormant Seeds attack, which breaks the door. In combat, this attack is useful against groups of enemies, so try it out.

### How To Destroy The Blue Flowers
Similar to the purple doors, blue flowers are spread across the map. You can learn to destroy the vines covered with blue flowers after upgrading your Harvest Glaive. This upgrade is available once you progress in the story, and you’ll need to return to the Oneus Vineyard when you first get the Glaive.
Go to the main chamber where you fought Alastor and head northwest along the same path that led to the blood fountain. In the room beyond the fountain, you’ll find three groups of flowers. Ricochet the Glaive off them to destroy the vines.
Doing this opens a path to the Sacred Monument of Demeter, where you’ll receive the Radiant Cornucopia. Take this item back to the temple and place it on the central podium to upgrade your Glaive.
Just like with the Evergreen Flame, aim at the flowers and press the right trigger and Square to throw the Glaive. Hit the flowers, then climb the vines they drop to ascend.
Finally, with both your upgraded Evergreen Flame and Harvest Glaive, head to Kyhira Island in the Grand Cistern. Use the boat to reach the island, then go north toward the Sacred Monument of Apollo.
To access this monument, first use the Evergreen Flame to burn down the door, then hit the blue flowers with the Glaive to make vines grow downward. Climb the vines to reach the monument. Interact with it to earn an Undying Hyacinth.
This item can be used to upgrade your Solar Sling, allowing it to break through the iron bars that block switches. Upgrading your gear early, especially after escaping The Sunken Agora, makes many areas more accessible and helps you prepare for tougher fights ahead.
