After being assigned the task in Code Vein 2 to locate the heroes’ cocoons used to seal the Resurgence, your first destination is the Sunken City to find Josée. She quickly becomes one of the most memorable characters in the game.
However, reaching her timeline again to improve her situation is quite challenging. Even after doing so, your main goal remains. You must defeat her in the Present Era to finally destroy the Resurgence. Thankfully, this time the battle is on better terms.
Where Is Hero Josée Fought?
Hero Josée is fought in the same location where you originally fought the Blind Hero version of Josée — right in the center of Josée’s Outpost in the Sunken City. Unlike Holly, Josée was preserved in her favorite place, but now she is more willingly sealed away.
To unseal her cocoon, just approach it carefully. It’s a good idea to talk briefly with Lise beforehand, as she is alive and well in this timeline.
Hero Josée’s Moveset
Compared to her previous version, which moved slowly with sudden attacks, this Josée is more graceful. Her movements are smoother, and her attack cues are clearer. Still, avoiding her attacks is tricky due to the floating Glutton’s Eyes rune swords she employs.
Here’s a quick overview of her moves:
| Move | Description |
|---|---|
| Long Advancing Slash | Throws rune swords ahead and then leaps to their location. |
| 360 Quick Attack | Spins swords around her rapidly; she can also reposition during this move. |
| Tracking Fire Balls | Summons homing fireballs that target you; dodge at the last second to break their lock-on. |
| Long Range Double Swipe | Sweeps her swords twice to hit mid-to-long range targets. Closer proximity to her makes this safer. |
| Regular Swipes | Short- to mid-range sword swipes, often chained together. |
| Teleport | Teleports beside you during certain attacks, then continues her assault. She glows before telegraphing. |
| Multi-Spin Attacks | Spins while advancing, covering a wide area — dodge no matter where you are. |
| Outward Spinning Fire Pillars | Slams the ground to cause fire pillars that spiral outward, increasing in speed. Staying still helps avoid them. |
| Tracking Fire Beams | Summons 2-4 orbs that lock onto her target and fire steady beams; she can move afterward. |
| Aerial Spinning Drop | Jumps and spins while dropping, with her swords spinning around her. Damage occurs on impact, so timing your dodge is crucial. |
Most of Josée’s attacks are ranged, so being near her generally keeps you safer, though many moves can still harm you if you’re not cautious. She relies entirely on ranged attacks, so close combat is often safer, but you must stay alert as she can move suddenly.
How To Beat Hero Josée
To beat Josée, staying active and constantly moving is key. Her attacks cover a wide area, so maintaining close proximity helps. Luckily, she has only one phase, so her behavior remains consistent throughout the fight.
Stick to staying close, dodge through her attacks, and watch out for her sudden movements. It’s beneficial to leave your partner out during the fight, mainly to bait her fire attacks. Her fireballs and beams target a single person, so if your partner draws her fire, you get more time to attack.
Most of her moves are similar, making the fight somewhat predictable once you learn her patterns. After defeating her, you gain the Hero Josée Blood Code and unlock the ability to summon Lise as a partner in the Present Era.
