Shrooms aren’t available from the start. New players need to grow their influence enough before dealers will offer them the necessary resources. Here are the main ways to get to that level of fame.
How to Unlock Shrooms
To start producing Shrooms, you need to unlock the Downtown area on the map. This happens when the influence of the cartels in the region drops enough. To do this, spray-paint sections of the map with spray cans to mark your territory. Carrying the spray can, you’ll see white outlines on walls that you can spray. Tagging areas shows your presence and weakens the cartels’ hold.
Another effective method is to take out their dealers. Spot someone standing around and see if they’re waiting for someone. If they are, follow them and attack when their dealer arrives. Sometimes, you may find the dealer waiting on their own—deal with them the same way. Keep an eye on a progress bar at the top of your screen; when it shows the influence is decreasing, the Downtown area will unlock.

How to Grow Shrooms
After Fungal Phil contacts you via text, he’ll send a list of instructions. These include buying items from Oscar at the Warehouse, setting up a dead drop, and purchasing an AC unit from the hardware store. A spray bottle is also recommended. Pick your site for the setup—once decided, it’s straightforward to start growing your Shrooms.
First, use the Mushroom Spawn Station to add the Grain Bag and Spore Syringe. Remove the syringe cap, then rotate it with the A and D keys to pierce the grain bag, and click to release the spores.
Next, place your Mushroom Bed with enough space around it for the AC unit and soil mixture. After that, add the Mushroom Substrate to the bed, then the spores you prepared, pressing repeatedly to break them into smaller pieces. Follow the on-screen prompts to mix everything in the soil. When prompted, fill the spray bottle and water the mixture with the Spacebar.
Temperature is crucial for growth. The Shrooms need a temperature below 15 degrees Celsius. Place the AC unit near the Mushroom Bed and monitor the temperature overlay; this shows the current conditions for your crop.
Harvesting and Using Shrooms
When the Shrooms fully grow, at 100%, use trimmers and press E to harvest them, just like with a weed plant. You can then use a mixing table to craft new products or bag the Shrooms directly to sell through your dealers.
Extra Tip: Fully grown Shrooms can also be found in sewer tunnels. Turn on your flashlight and check the corners and walls for these hidden resources.
