GreedFall: The Dying World gives you a good set of weapons early on, but some of the strongest gear and skill trees are hidden until you know where to find them. Instead of stumbling upon these powerful options by chance during gameplay, understanding how to unlock them is important.
All three unlockable weapons—Rifles, Theleme Rings, and Double Blades—are obtained the same way: by talking to specific party members after reaching a certain point in the story. Each weapon unlocks a new skill tree, significantly broadening your combat options. Here’s what you need to know:
How to Unlock New Weapons
There are three weapons you can’t access right away in The Dying World: Rifles, Theleme Rings, and Double Blades.
To unlock these weapons for your main character, speak with the party member who wields them once you’ve advanced enough in the story to reach Constanzia. Once aboard the ship, you can ask these characters to teach you about their weapons:
- Sybille teaches about Double Blades, including Daggers and Knives.
- Fausta offers knowledge about Theleme Rings, which come in two types, similar to Bangles.
- Safia can explain Rifles.
This conversation unlocks not only the ability to equip the respective weapons but also a dedicated skill tree for each. Developing these trees allows you to learn the skills necessary to use the weapons effectively in combat.
Note: Some characters may not immediately offer to teach you their weapon. You might need to complete a specific quest or improve your relationship with them first. For example, Safia and Fausta tend to offer lessons early, but Sybille might require some additional effort before she shares her knowledge.
Weapon Details and Playstyle Tips
Double Blades:
These are lightweight weapons, perfect for a rogue-style approach. Their skill tree offers a variety of options, including ranged damage, increased dodging, and shield-breaking techniques. Both knives and daggers focus on maximizing backstab damage and critical hits. Knives emphasize critical chance, while daggers focus on critical damage, giving flexibility to adapt your approach later in the game.
Theleme Rings:
Ranged magical weapons similar to Bangles. The Shadows version deals area damage, useful for crowd control in late game, while the Light version heals allies near your target. The skill trees lean more towards offensive magic, adding effects like negative status inflictions and high-damage passive skills that activate when your Magical Deflection is low.
Rifles:
Rifles are slower but pack a punch, emphasizing strength over speed. They excel in critical damage and benefit from higher ground positions more than Bows. The skill set focuses on destructive attacks rather than supporting allies but also grants access to grenades, providing a versatile ranged approach in combat.
Tips for Specialization
If you want to focus on a specific weapon type, using a Memory Stone to respecialize your skills is recommended. These items can be bought from merchants or found in your cabin after unlocking Constanzia. Respecializing allows you to fully develop your chosen weapon’s skill tree for maximum effectiveness.
