Shrinking down to a tiny teenager in Grounded 2 may seem intimidating, but it offers some major advantages, like gaining access to special mutations. Mutations are similar to perks—they give passive benefits such as doing extra damage or moving faster.

There are 18 different mutations to unlock in Grounded 2. Each one improves your experience in Brookhollow Park or helps you play a specific way. With four unique classes—Fighter, Mage, Ranger, and Rogue—mutations can help you find the perfect style of play in Grounded 2.

What Does Each Mutation Do & How To Unlock Them

Mutations provide huge benefits, especially when fighting tough bugs. Some are unlocked naturally as you play, while others require you to use specific weapons frequently to improve your skills.

Here’s a look at all the mutations, what they do, and how to unlock them:

Lil Fist
Unlock by killing 40, 100, and 200 creatures using fists.

  • On hit, fist attacks add stacks toward a charged attack. Using a charged attack consumes all stacks for bonus damage.
  • Fist hits also cause extra stun and generate two stacks per hit.

Smasher
Obtain by defeating 40, 100, and 200 bugs with clubs.

  • Club attacks do more stun damage and deal increased damage to stunned enemies.

Javelineer
Unlocked after killing 40, 100, and 200 creatures with spears.

  • Spears hit harder when thrown and reflect damage back to attackers.
  • Charge attacks deal extra damage.

Assassin
Earn by destroying 40, 100, and 200 enemies with daggers.

  • Dash strikes have higher critical hit rates. Dual daggers and sickles do extra crit damage.
  • Kills with these weapons increase crit chance temporarily.

Sharpshooter
Available after killing 40, 100, and 200 enemies with bows.

  • Fully charged shots have a better chance to critically hit.
  • Perfectly charged shots do more damage.

Blademaster
Unlocked by defeating 40, 100, and 200 foes with swords.

  • Sword attacks reduce enemy damage briefly.
  • Attacking with a sword temporarily removes your stamina drain.

Whittle Wizard
Earn after killing 40, 100, and 200 creatures with staves.

  • Staff attacks gain bonus elemental effects: more burn damage (Sizzle) and increased damage against frozen enemies shattering.
  • Critical hit chance increases when burning or frozen foes have maximum buildup.

Parry Master
Unlock by performing 30, 80, and 150 perfect blocks.

  • Perfect blocks restore stamina.

Ambush
Achieved by landing 30, 80, and 150 dash attacks.

  • Deal critical damage to unaware enemies.
  • Dagger ambush attacks get extra crit damage.

Frenzy
Obtain by defeating the Mysterious Stranger.

  • Melee attacks trigger rage, increasing damage and health regeneration while enraged.
  • Blocks cannot be timed.

Guard Dog
Complete one, four, or nine MIX.R events to unlock.

  • Increases damage against creatures attacking your turf.

Natural Explorer
Discover 20, 50, and 80 points of interest.

  • Run faster, although this speed boost lowers during combat or when taking or dealing damage.

Trapper PEEP.R
Collect 25, 50, and 75 gold cards.

  • Increases damage of critical hits.

Cardio Fan
Deplete stamina 100, 250, and 500 times.

  • Recovers stamina faster and lowers exhaustion time after stamina runs out.

Reliable Friend
Revive five, 15, or 30 allies.

  • Revive fallen teammates quicker, reducing reviving time.

Fresh Defense
Eat one, five, or ten Mint Shards.

  • Slows sizzle buildup, reduces burn damage, and lessens damage from poison gas.

Spicy Safety
Eat one, five, or ten Spicy Shards.

  • Reduces chill buildup, decreases damage when frozen, and lessens damage from hits while frozen.

Mithridatism
Defeat five, fifty, and one hundred fifty venomous creatures.

  • Slows venom buildup and reduces damage from poison, though it’s one of the hardest mutations to unlock.

What Are The Best Mutations For Combat?
For combat-focused play, once you unlock four mutation slots through Gold Milk Molars, it’s wise to use:

  • One fighting style mutation
  • One or two combat abilities
  • One or two survival mutations

Use any fighting style that suits your weapon choice. Frenzy is considered the top combat ability, but Ambush and Parry Master are also good options. Reliable Friend is essential if you play with others, as it greatly reduces revive times, almost guaranteeing a successful revive before enemies interrupt.

All survival mutations are useful, but Mithridatism is especially important against enemies like Wolf Spiders. Spicy Safety and Fresh Defense are good alternatives if fighting insect threats involving those damage types.

What Are The Best Mutations For Exploring And Building?
If your focus is exploring the park and avoiding combat, you can skip fighting and combat mutations. Prioritize getting Natural Explorer first, then choose three from the five available survival mutations. Here’s a recommended priority list:

  1. Cardio Fan
  2. Fresh Defense
  3. Spicy Safety
  4. Mithridatism
  5. Reliable Friend

If you only have two mutation slots, pick Natural Explorer and Cardio Fan to maximize your speed for exploring and escaping dangerous enemies.
