Starting your journey through Talamh in Absolum, you’ll initially have access to two playable characters: Galandra, the dark and serious knight, and Karl, the tough dwarf who loves to fight. While these two are great, they won’t be enough to defeat Azra, the Sun King. To stand a chance, you’ll need to unlock two more characters, Brome and Cider, as soon as possible. Here’s how to do it.
How to Unlock Cider
Getting Cider is pretty straightforward compared to Brome and can be done in a few playthroughs. You’ll meet Cider after defeating the first mini-boss in the Grandery. It doesn’t matter which route you choose, because Cider will appear to speak with you in the safe zone after either boss. They will identify themselves as someone who knows you.
After your first encounter, Cider will show up again at the start of your next run but will quickly vanish. You’ll see Cider once more when you reach the forest near the Underking’s castle. Helping Cider during this battle will lead them to head to the Sanctuary, where they’ll be available to use in future runs. Cider is the most challenging character to learn, but they have the best grapple move in the game, which is linked to their special attack. Their skills tend to be more situational but highly useful once you’ve earned some Inspirations, making playing as Cider a real treat.
How to Unlock Brome
To unlock Brome, you need to reach the second region of Absolum called Jaroba, which means you must defeat the Underking first. Once in Jaroba, the path ahead is quite straightforward. After exploring a few areas, you’ll see a cutscene showing a character being kidnapped.
Defeat the enemies in that room and free Vikhana, the Joyful, from the plant she’s trapped in. She will then give you a mission to rescue Brome and mark his location on your map. Your main task is to follow the path forward and then head north to find Brome. Be prepared, because Jaroba is much tougher than the Grandery, so it may take several tries to reach Brome. Once you locate him in a tunnel marked on your map, he will help you in battle before returning to the Sanctuary. From then on, you’ll be able to play as Brome.
Brome is my favorite character because he’s a powerful wizard who’s good at both long-range and close combat, thanks to his staff and magic. His heavy attack is excellent for deflecting enemy strikes, making him one of the strongest characters in the game.
