Fallout 76 offers a variety of activities, including some that have been part of the game for a while and others introduced more recently. Until the Burning Springs update, one notable activity—Bounty Hunting—was missing from the game.
Bounty Hunting features a character that fans of the Fallout TV series will recognize: The Ghoul. To start bounty hunting, players need to go to a new location on the western side of the map called Burning Springs. This spot is just across a bridge near the Mothman Museum, slightly to the north.
Once there, you should head to The Last Resort, a saloon where you’ll find The Ghoul. Talking to him is your first step to get involved.
There are two main types of bounties in Fallout 76: Grunt Hunts and Head Hunts.
-
Grunt Hunt: These can be taken from a table next to The Ghoul and can be done repeatedly. They send you to Burning Springs to find a target, usually with some allies nearby. You’ll be given a small area to search, and once you find the target, you have ten minutes to eliminate them.
-
Head Hunt: For a higher prize, you can speak with The Ghoul to get a more valuable target. This option costs 5,000 caps and places the bounty on the Bounty Board outside The Last Resort. Interact with it to see the target on your map and travel there. You’ll then start an event that other players can join, and you’ll likely need their help to take down the target and any friends they have.
It’s also worth noting that sometimes, after completing Grunt Hunts, you’ll randomly receive a Head Hunt Bounty Poster, though this is uncommon.
Bounty Hunting can be quite profitable, especially if you’re aiming to collect a lot of Legendary Items quickly. Finishing a Grunt Hunt rewards you with Legendary Modules and a Legendary Item, and the target will usually have another Legendary Item on their body. Completing a Head Hunt gives you multiple Legendary Items, a significant amount of experience points, and many other items.
Overall, bounty hunting is a great way to earn Legendary Items faster. Even if you’re not interested in the items themselves, you can use Legendary Exchange and Legendary Vendors to swap them for others.
