Grounded 2 is an open-world survival game with a lot of progress to make. At the start, you can go anywhere on the map, but fighting tougher enemies requires upgrading your gear. One key step for upgrades is building a workbench.
If you’ve played other survival crafting games, you know how important a workbench is. You need it to craft most items, so here’s how to make one.
Note: Grounded 2 is in Early Access, so details may change over time.
How to Unlock the Workbench
When you begin playing Grounded 2, you’ll go through a quick tutorial on basic controls and then leave your starting building. After that, follow the main storyline until you reach the Ranger Outpost on the southern edge of the Snackbar Front area—that usually happens within the first hour.
At this outpost, you’ll find an Omni-Axe. This tool is needed to chop down trees and bushes. Once you have it, go back outside and cut some nearby grass. This will give you Grass Planks. Bring these to the Resource Analyzer inside the outpost to analyze them and unlock the workbench.
Tip: The Resource Analyzer has limited uses, but you get a new charge every few minutes in the game.
How to Make the Workbench
After you’ve analyzed Grass Planks and unlocked the blueprint, go to the spot where you want to set up your workbench. Use the build menu (by pressing B on a keyboard or the upper arrow button on a controller by default). Browse through the options until you find the workbench.
Select it, and you’ll see a transparent version—place it wherever you like. You can rotate it along X and Y axes before confirming. To build it, you’ll need:
- 3 Grass Planks
- 4 Sprigs
- 2 Sap
How to Gather the Materials
- Grass Planks: Chop grass around the map. You’ll need to carry these in your hand to analyze them for the blueprint. It’s best to find one close by.
- Sprigs: Look for small branches with two leaves sticking out of the ground. Picking them up gives you Sprigs.
- Sap: Find sticky deposits on walls. You can also use an Omni-Tool to clear bigger Sap deposits for more Sap.
Reminder: When crafting items, a workbench icon will appear in the top-right corner of items requiring one.
