The Vi-O-La Suit is Samus’s main armor for Metroid Prime 4, enabling her to use the Vi-O-La. You’ll unlock this suit the first time you visit the Volt Forge, which also unlocks the Vi-O-La itself.
Vi-O-La is Samus’s bike during the game. It features projectiles and a boosted mode that can be followed up with a damaging Power Slide. You gain access to the bike when you visit the Volt Forge for the first time, along with the Vi-O-La Suit, as the bike depends on the suit to operate.
The Vi-O-La IC Suit is an upgrade that adds heat resistance to Samus’s Vi-O-La suit. This upgrade also unlocks the matching upgrade for the bike. You can see this upgrade in the Volt Forge the first time you visit, but you won’t be able to unlock it until you acquire the Psychic Boost Ball. After obtaining it, return to the Volt Forge to upgrade your suit.
The Vi-O-La IC upgrade enhances heat resistance for the bike. This upgrade activates automatically when needed, and it unlocks automatically when Samus upgrades her suit with the Vi-O-La IC.
The Fire Shot comes in three versions: Normal, Charged, and Super. The Normal shot deals fire elemental damage and causes enemies to burn, taking continuous damage, and consumes one Shot Ammo. The Charged version is more powerful and fires multiple projectiles, costing three Shot Ammo. The Super shot is the strongest, firing even more projectiles and consuming fifteen Shot Ammo.
You unlock the normal Fire Shot by collecting the Fire Chip early in the Flare Pool and bringing it to MacKenzie at Fury Green. The Charged and Super versions are unlocked by completing the Ladder of Thought Shrine and the Rings of Stone Shrine, with the first one completed unlocking the Charged shot and the second unlocking the Super. The Ladder of Thought Shrine is easier to access and is recommended first.
The Ice Shot also has three levels: Normal, Charged, and Super. It deals ice damage and can freeze enemies for varying durations. It consumes one Shot Ammo at the Normal level, three at Charged, and ten at Super. To unlock the normal Ice Shot, you must find the Ice Chip in the Ice Belt and return it to MacKenzie at Fury Green after defeating Keratos. The Charged and Super versions are unlocked by completing the Floating Path Shrine and the Source of Spring Shrine, with the first unlocking the Charged shot and the second unlocking the Super.
The Thunder Shot, which comes in Normal, Charged, and Super forms, deals electrical damage and can shock enemies or power devices. The Normal Thunder Shot is available after returning to Volt Forge with the Psychic Grapple to cross a collapsed walkway before heading to Tower 1’s bottom, where the Thunder Chip is stored, though battling the boss there triggers a fight. The Charged and Super versions are unlocked by completing the Rings of Thunder Shrine and the Falling Labyrinth Shrine, with the first unlocking the Charged shot and the second the super.
The Control Beam is a mentally guided beam activated while using the Psychic Visor, mainly used for puzzles and targeting weak points on enemies. It is unlocked early in Fury Green during a puzzle.
The Missile Launcher grants Samus the ability to shoot missiles that lock onto enemies, consuming one Missile Ammo per shot. You get it shortly after meeting Mackenzie at Fury Green.
The Super Missile is an upgraded version of the missile launcher, more powerful and consuming five Missile Ammo. It unlocks after completing a puzzle involving VUE-995 in the Great Mines.
The Psychic Bomb allows dropping up to three bombs while in Morph Ball mode. Charging the bomb creates a controllable Mote. This ability is unlocked immediately after defeating Carvex in the Garden of Remembrance, Fury Green.
The Psychic Power Bomb is an upgrade that increases damage and aids puzzle-solving. It becomes available after defeating the boss Omega Griever in the Great Mines.
The Psychic Boost Ball, an upgrade for the Morph Ball, lets Samus trigger quick bursts of high-speed rolling, powering devices and damaging enemies. It unlocks after defeating Keratos in the Lamorn Laboratory.
The Psychic Spider Ball lets the Morph Ball magnetize to magnetic tracks and hang from Tether Nodes or ride Psychic Ball Tracks using the Psychic Visor. It is found in the Ancient Temple in the Ice Belt after unlocking the Thunder Shot.
The Psychic Visor is a scanning device used for interactions, puzzles, and collectibles, unlocked at the start of the game in Chrono Tower after placing the purple Psychic Crystal in Samus’s forehead.
The Psychic Boots enable a double jump, also called a Space Jump, and allow standing on Psychic Platforms created with the Psychic Visor. They are unlocked after defeating Xelios in the Volt Forge, shortly after obtaining the Vi-O-La Suit.
The Psychic Glove provides control over Motes and other psychic objects via the Psychic Visor. Found in the middle of the Arboreal Chapel during Fury Green, it is essential for progression and unlocked shortly after the initial tutorial.
The Psychic Grapple grants the ability to use grappling hooks to cross large gaps or reach high areas. It unlocks after defeating Phenoros, the boss of the Flare Pool.
The Psychic Lasso creates a psychic rope to pull objects toward you, usable only on compatible objects. Hidden lasso points can be revealed with the Psychic Visor. It is found during a puzzle in the Bio-Labs of the Ice Belt.
The final upgrade, the Legacy Suit, provides a Psychic Barrier that blocks most incoming attacks and damages enemies that touch it. Its durability depends on damage absorbed, but it will fade over time. This suit is unlocked after visiting the Altar of Legacy in Fury Green once all the Green Energy Crystals are collected.
