Fishing in open-world crafting games is quite common, and it’s no surprise that Hytale includes this feature. However, fishing in Hytale is quite different from games like Minecraft or Stardew Valley.

In this game, there are no traditional fishing rods or mini-games for catching fish. Instead, you can still catch fish through a unique process. Here’s how it works and what to do with the fish afterward.

What You Need To Fish

Instead of a fishing rod, Hytale uses Fishing Traps to catch fish.

To craft a Fishing Trap, you first need a Farmer’s Workbench. Oddly, even though fishing isn’t really a farmer’s task, you build the workbench from a regular one using:

• 6 logs of any type of tree
• 20 plant fibers

Once you have the Farmer’s Workbench, you must upgrade it to Tier 2 to craft the Fishing Trap. Upgrading requires:

• 50 Essence of Life
• 5 Wheat
• 5 Lettuce
• 5 softwood logs (like Beech, Aspen, or Banyan)

Building a Fishing Trap

After upgrading your Farmer’s Workbench, you can make a Fishing Trap with these materials:

• 10 pieces of any wood
• 50 Essence of Life
• 20 plant fibers
• 1 iron ingot

Making Fish Bait

Another tool to help catch fish is fish bait, which you can craft at the Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench. To make bait, need:

• 3 pieces of any fruit
• 5 Essence of Life

How To Catch a Fish

With your Fishing Trap and bait ready, follow these steps:

1. Find a pond or ocean nearby.
2. Place the trap on top of the water by right-clicking.
3. Hold the bait in your hand and right-click the trap to insert it.
4. Wait for the trap to catch a fish. Using bait speeds up this process.
5. When a fish is caught, walk up to the trap and press ‘F’ to harvest it, retrieving the fish.

Using the Fish

To utilize your catch, you’ll need a Chef’s Stove. You can craft one at the Workbench using:

• 2 copper ingots
• 10 logs of any tree
• 5 stones

Once you have the stove and fish, you can cook your fish into Raw Fish:

• Place the Raw Fish on the stove to cook.
• The number of Raw Fish produced depends on the fish’s rarity:

Cooking Fish

Once you have Raw Fish, you can cook it over a campfire, which doesn’t require a Workbench. To build a campfire, you’ll need:

• Wood
• Some fuel (like logs)

Place Raw Fish on the campfire to cook and create Grilled Fish, which can be eaten to restore health.
