Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension is packed with surprises. You never really know which Pokémon will appear in the downloadable content (DLC). Besides the Mega Evolutions, classic Pokémon are also back, ready to add to your Pokédex.

One of these is Gimmighoul, which evolves into Gholdengo—an interesting character that looks like string cheese—originally from the Scarlet & Violet generation. The great thing is, you only need to own the DLC to get Gimmighoul.

How to Get Gimmighoul in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Getting Gimmighoul is simple—just complete a quick side quest.

All it takes is a side mission

To start the Gimmighoul quest and get one immediately, go to the Pokémon Center in Lumiose City, right in the middle of the map. Head slightly northwest and talk to the NPC standing against a building with a Gimmighoul beside them.

This NPC will give you a free Gimmighoul. That begins Side Mission 122, “Let’s Golden Goooooo!”—which you’ll need to complete to evolve Gimmighoul. Just remember, you must have the DLC to see this quest, as Gimmighoul is considered a Mega Dimension Pokémon for your Pokédex.

How to Evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

You’ll need a total of 999 Gimmighoul Coins

To turn Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, you’ll need to gather 999 Gimmighoul Coins and then evolve it from the menu.

Gimmighoul Coins are randomly found as shiny items lying on the ground in Hyperspace. Be sure to take as many Hyperspace portals as you can to find these coins.

Good news: the NPC from Side Mission 122 drops 413 coins right away, so you only need about 486 more coins to complete the evolution. You might even find most of the coins naturally during your gameplay before finishing the main story of the DLC—that’s much easier than in Scarlet & Violet.
