To complete Pokémon Pokopia, you need a nearly endless supply of items. Building each habitat requires many rare items, sometimes multiples, which can be hard to find. Items in the shop unlock gradually and won’t give you the entire collection. While you can craft items—provided you have the right recipes and gather the necessary resources—it’s also smart to pick up everything you come across, even items that seem non-valuable. Collecting rare items during your travels ensures you always have what you need on hand.

You can also trade for items, but how soon you unlock this feature depends on your progress in the game. Here’s how to make trading happen.

Where Can You Trade With Pokémon?

To trade Pokémon, you first need to build a Poké Center. This is a key story task in each region, except Palette Town, which doesn’t have a story component. You’ll need to do this separate from your trading activities. Building a Poké Mart can give you access to a wider variety of trade items. When trading, you’re informed of an item’s monetary value, but you can’t buy it directly with money. Instead, you need to trade items of similar value—such as furniture you can craft or resources you have plenty of.

How Do You Make a Pokémon Work in a Poké Center or Poké Mart?

Not every Pokémon can run a Poké Center or Poké Mart. Only those with the “Trade Specialty” are able to assist here. These Pokémon are capable of performing trades and include:

  • Blastoise
  • Slowbro
  • Hitmonlee
  • Hitmonchan
  • Hitmontop
  • Hoothoot
  • Noctowl
  • Meowth
  • Persian
  • Gastly
  • Haunter
  • Happiny
  • Snorlax
  • Prinlup
  • Audino
  • Zorua
  • Zoroark
  • Clefable
  • Sudowoodo
  • Honchkrow
  • Alakazam
  • Typhlosion
  • Misdreavus
  • Gardevoir
  • Eevee
  • Glaceon

What Are the Best Items To Trade For?

It’s difficult to specify the best items because it depends on what you currently have and what you’re planning to build next. For example, Poké Metals are rare and only found in a few locations, though those spots are rich in resources. This makes it hard to determine a universal “best” item to seek out.

That said, berries are always useful. Several habitats produce berries, but Leppa Berries are common during regular gameplay. Chesto Berries and similar items are worth grabbing whenever they are available. These are versatile resources that can assist with numerous in-game needs.
