Where Winds Meet features numerous bosses, each with their own unique attack patterns and mechanics. To defeat them all, you’ll need to improve both your character’s build and your skills as a player. This becomes especially true on Expert or Legend difficulty levels, where bosses are tougher and hit harder.
In a sort of continuation from the first part of the story, you get the chance to face Yi Dao, also known as the Killerblade. He’s a formidable opponent, so be prepared for a challenging fight. Below, you’ll find the details on where to find him and how to beat him.
Yi Dao’s Location
The battle with Yi Dao takes place in the Dreamscape version of Blissful Retreat. To reach this area, find the sword near the burned building in the northwest part of Blissful Retreat and interact with it. This will transport you to Dreamscape: Blissful Retreat. From there, follow the mountain path using Cloud Steps to jump from ledge to ledge until you reach the end of the area, where Yi Dao is waiting.
Yi Dao Boss Fight Strategy
Yi Dao combines jumping sword attacks with waves of sword energy, so no matter how far or close you are, he can reach you. His most common move involves jumping into an overhead slash; this is a red attack, meaning if you parry it, you’ll perform a counterattack that deals significant Qi damage.
Tips for Fighting Yi Dao
- Watch for his attack strings that often lead into an overhead jumping strike. Mastering the timing to successfully parry this move is vital.
- Yi Dao sometimes sends out energy waves—either a single wave or three waves in quick succession. These are better dodged than parried, especially if you’re far away from him. Pay attention to the timing between waves for better evasion.
- His attack combo includes sword swings and shoulder tackles. Usually, he doesn’t move around much during this, so instead of trying to block or parry every hit, it’s smarter to dodge and wait for the attack to finish.
Counterattacks and Energy Channeling
Occasionally, Yi Dao channels energy into his sword, which you can interrupt by using Celestial Seize. Doing so will allow you to grab his weapon, perform a counter, and prevent him from completing his attack. Although this counter doesn’t do much damage, it helps you avoid a dangerous move.
He also sometimes holds his sword to the side to charge energy, then slams it down twice in a powerful attack. Parrying this move requires timing to block both hits at the right moment. If caught in his Gold Attack—a move where he charges up and unleashes a series of slashes followed by a red parriable dash—spam your parry button to counter the dash and mitigate damage.
Ultimate Attack to Watch For
His most dangerous move involves planting his sword into the ground and summoning three shadow clone waves that attack in an arc. The best way to dodge this is to perfect dodge backward at the start, then stay out of range until the attacks pass.
Overall Tips
Learning Yi Dao’s attack animations and timing your dodges and parries accordingly is essential. If you find yourself struggling, try lowering the difficulty or upgrading your gear before facing him again. Mastering his attack patterns will help you claim victory.
